LA Gladiator's Void talks 2-2-2 role lock and new hero Sigma
The Los Angeles Gladiators defeated the New York Excelsior 3-1 on the first night of Overwatch League's Stage 4. Unlike the NYXL, the Gladiators seem to have embraced the 2-2-2 role lock quite happily.
Gladiators tank Jun-woo "Void" Kang was quick to say that their win was due to the team's stellar DPS mains who finally had a chance to shine. WIN.gg spoke with the D.Va main about 2-2-2 lock's affect on his gameplay and his thoughts on the new hero, Sigma.
How do you feel about your win today?
Void: I got carried by my DPS players. They did so well. There was nothing much that I had to do.
How were you feeling going into the match versus NYXL?
I was nervous. Just straight up nervous. It’s the first game of Stage 4.
Why do you think you were able to so easily defeat the NYXL today?
Surefour just killed them all.
Do you feel your team has benefited from the 2-2-2 role lock?
I think so, because our DPS are top tier players compared to the rest of the league.
As a tank main, how do you feel about the switch to 2-2-2?
I haven’t changed much. I got to play Roadhog a little more.
You already played D.Va a lot in Stage 3. Was your playstyle with D.Va any different today because of the role lock?
I'm contesting snipers, taking care of the attempted flanks more, and taking care of our supports in the backline. If you don’t contest snipers they’ll pop off and the backline will just die.
Do you think you'll try out any other tanks this stage?
I think I’ll mainly play Roadhog and D.Va.
Why do you think Roadhog works well in 2-2-2?
Hog just works really well with Orisa and Mei. It can be used more for combos with those heroes.
Have you had a chance to play Sigma yet? What are your thoughts on this new hero?
He was fun. It was like playing pool.
What excites you the most about his kit?
I really enjoy using the ultimate ability. You can just straight up lift them up and drop them down.
Do you think he will fit into the 2-2-2 comp? Do you see yourself using him at all?
I don’t know yet. But I’ll probably learn him.
What new comps do you see becoming more common in the new meta?
Orisa with Roadhog, double sniper, and straight dive comps.
You guys just missed the playoffs last stage. What is your goal for Stage 4?
To make it to the playoffs this time.
Are you most excited to play against any particular team?
I just want to win against them all.
