Fortnite World Cup to be streamed in-game for Fortnite players
The Fortnite World Cup is right around the corner and Epic Games has announced a new in-game feature in support of the event.
The biggest Fortnite competition of the year is coming to New York on July 26. The Fortnite World Cup will gather the best players in the world for a three-day event. Those watching from home will now be able to enjoy the action and play Fortnite at the same time.
The picture-in-picture feature will be available through the weekend in the in-game lobby. Players just have to push the “watch now” button, sit back, and enjoy the show. Players can opt to keep the pop-up window open during a match or to pause it at will.
This new feature could be developer Epic Games’ attempt to increase the viewership of the competitive event. Fortnite took the internet by storm in 2018 and is struggling to keep numbers up in 2019. The event will also be available to watch on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, Mixer, and Caffeine.
The audio will be taken from the English-language broadcast without subtitles or captions. Players from other languages can get localized content on Fortnite’s website.
Every day at the event will be a unique experience that starts with the fan festival. This miniaturized theme park will be open for players that can enjoy the attractions and earn real-life rewards.
The Fortnite World Cup kicks off on Friday with the creative finals. Later that same day, the celebrities take over the stage for the Pro-Am final. 50 duos will be competing for $3 million for charity. Day two is all about the duos, and day three is for the solo players.
The Fornite World Cup will have players from some of the most popular esports teams in the world. FaZe Clan, NRG, T1, Misfits Gaming, Counter Logic Gaming, Fnatic, Cloud9, 100 Thieves, and TSM are just some of the organizations present at the event.
