Team Spain coach announces withdrawal from Overwatch World Cup

Jonathan “HarryHook” Tejedor Rua has announced via Twitter that Team Spain will have to brave the Overwatch World Cup without a coach.

HarryHook expressed his disappointment in Blizzard’s decision against letting the team bring in a replacement coach, noting that if it were Team USA making the request he was sure that they would be able to get a substitute.

Shortly after, Sergi “Paranoidxz” Carrasco Marsiñach posted his explanation for departing Team Spain on Twitter. He said that the team had known since early August that he would be stepping down as coach and had spoken with Blizzard for an agreed upon date to announce it, but because of the “current situation” he decided to break the agreement. Paranoidxz didn’t elaborate the specifics.

Citing personal and emotional issues, Paranoidxz said that he was recommended by a medical professional to step down as coach. He admits that he is giving up on a dream of his, but he expressed hope that someone else could fill his spot and achieve their own dreams.

This announcement comes shortly after Alberto “Neptuno” González Molinillo announced resignation from his support role on Team Spain.

Overwatch League players Jonathan “HarryHook” Tejedor Rua of the Dallas Fuel and support player Daniel “dhaK” Martinez Paz of the San Francisco Shock will be competing for Spain.

Other members of the team include support player Ivo “Linepro” Kolev, tank players Jose Antonio “BromaS” Ramos Gonzalez and Alejandro “Networkz” Martin Perez, and DPS players Joshua “ToxikeN” Campos and DPS player Mario “PoPiFresH” Gonzalez.

Team Spain starts their group stage in Bangkok, Thailand on September 13 against Australia.
