Team Liquid surpasses Astralis winning streak with incredible run
Team Liquid has beaten Astralis’ LAN winning streak record by one match, reaching 18 wins in a row with their latest win over FaZe Clan.
Team Liquid has had an amazing run over the past two months, beginning with its 2-0 win over TYLOO in ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals. The North American side hasn’t lost since.
Their winning streak continued through three events: ESL Pro League Season 9 Finals, ESL One Cologne 2019, and BLAST Pro Series Los Angeles 2019.
The team didn’t drop a single map at BLAST Pro Series LA and was crowned champion. With a prize of $125,000, this is yet another big win for the team. Liquid took seven consecutive wins in this tournament alone, beating FaZe, Cloud9, Renegades, NRG, and MiBR.
Prior to this event, Liquid went undefeated at ESL One Cologne, adding five more wins to their flawless streak. The remaining six wins come from their run at the ESL Pro League Finals.
From June 20 to the final win at the Blast Pro Series event, it took Liquid less than a month to beat Astralis’ record. They have won all three tournaments during that time for a total of $500,000 in prize winnings. Additionally, Liquid earned themselves another million by winning the Intel Grand Slam Season 2 competition.
The record of 17 consecutive wins Astralis has had until now took twice as long to achieve, starting in late November 2018 and ending in late January 2019. During that time, Astralis won the Esports Championship Series Season 6 Finals and the ESL Pro League Season 8 Finals, both for $250,000 prizes.
Interestingly enough, it was exactly Liquid who ended Astralis’ win streak at iBUYPOWER Masters 2019. Liquid overtook Astralis 2-1 in the finals, taking the tournament’s trophy and ending Astralis’ flawless era. It was the first win for Liquid over Astralis in a tournament final and served as the harbinger for the amazing run Liquid has since been on.
Liquid now stands strong in first place of HLTV’s CS:GO world ranking with almost double the points of second-place team Vitality. Astralis is in third place with just over 400 points.
