League patch 9.14 removes Aatrox resurrection, among other changes
League of Legends patch 9.14 will be bringing some big changes to Summoner's Rift, including the removal of Aatrox’s iconic revive ability.
The Darkin Blade’s resurrection has remained the most consistent piece of his kit since his release. It previously was a part of Aatrox’s original passive, Blood Well, before it became a part of his new ultimate ability World Ender following a full rework of the champion in 2018. Riot Games is now planning on removing the demonic champion’s revive in exchange for buffing stats on the World Ender ability.
Patch 9.14 is live on the PBE where Aatrox’s ultimate’s cooldown has been decreased by 20 seconds at each rank and its healing percentage has been buffed, going from 40/55/70% to 50/60/70%. These adjustments may increase Aatrox’s early game potential, but it comes at the cost of a key feature of the champion’s kit.
This major change has sparked controversy in the community. Some argue that the removal of the ability to resurrect Aatrox takes away the unique aspect of playing the warrior champion.
The Aatrox changes stealing most people’s attention in the upcoming patch notes, but there are a number of other changes to look out for as well.
One significant addition being implemented in patch 9.14 is the update to the Death Recap. Players will be able to discern the exact amount and type of damage dealt to them, which champions and abilities hurt the most, and will accurately see the length of time during which they were caught in hard CC.
Other things to watch for are some notable changes to a number of champions including Akali, Cassiopeia, Galio, Lux, Malphite, Sylas, Tahm Kench, and Swain. Additionally, Garen and Lucian are receiving two new Miami Vice-themed skins. To top all of this off, Teamfight Tactics will be receiving a ranked mode when 9.14 launches.
Due to the lengthy list of upcoming additions, subtractions, and adjustments, this patch was delayed from its original release date. Patch 9.14 is now scheduled to go live July 17.
