Team Secret nabs top spot as 2019 Dota Pro Circuit concludes
After two major tournament wins, Team Secret claimed the top spot in the final Dota Pro Circuit Rankings.
The Dota Pro Circuit has officially concluded. The top three teams showed their dominance in the year’s major tournaments.
Team Secret ranked first with its wins at The Chongqing Major and MDL Disneyland Paris Major, which garnered 14,400 points. Virtus.pro was not far behind with its total of 13,500 points. This is largely due to its win at The Kuala Lumpur Major and two second-place finishes taken at the next two major tournaments.
Dota Pro Circuit front-runner Team Secret was consistently in the top three at each Major tournament, but the team failed to close its run with another major victory.
Secret was eliminated by the TI8 champion OG in the second round of the tournament’s lower bracket. However, an early exit at the Epicenter Major was not enough to bring down the European team from the top spot.
The recent Dota Pro Circuit was structured differently than the previous one. Points were tied to teams rather than players, and all teams who qualified for major events received a certain number of points. However, those who took the top three spots at major tournaments were most likely qualified for The International 2019 direct invite.
The Dota Pro Circuit results may translate to dominance at this year’s edition of The International, but that was not the case last year. OG, the underdogs who defied all odds, snatched the title despite not being at the top of the Dota Pro Circuit rankings, and the team will look to repeat that feat in 2019.
Despite the unpredictability of The International, Team Secret will surely be a top favorite to win the Aegis of Champions.
The final top 12 in the Dota Pro Circuit stands as follows: Team Secret, Virtus.pro, Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, PSG.LGD, Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, TNC Predator, OG, Alliance, and Keen Gaming.
