Svenskeren, Licorice carry Cloud9 over CLG as LCS summer continues

Cloud9 is back in the win column.

After suffering an upset loss at the hands of 100 Thieves, C9 bounced back and took down Counter Logic Gaming. The clash between these giants was exciting and full of action.

CLG jungler Raymond “Wiggily” Griffin locked in his signature Trundle and immediately made his presence felt, pressuring lanes and keeping Cloud9 uncomfortable. Full of confidence, CLG decided to play more aggressive but Cloud9 was quick to disengage.

The only exception to this was Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen. The Cloud9 jungler was given the mission of tracking down Wiggily and keeping him from impacting lanes. Svenskeren was successful in this and without a jungler to make plays, CLG was forced to take a step back. C9 seized that opportunity to bully CLG around and get neutral objectives.

CLG eventually went back on offense but the skirmishes favored Cloud9. Top laner Eric “Licorice” Ritchie was a force on Akali, taking over the jungle and forcing CLG to stay together. C9 didn’t slow down and the proactive attitude gave them a baron buff and the win shortly thereafter.

It was an entertaining game but there was plenty of excitement to be found across the LCS. 100 Thieves is on a three-game winning streak after a convincing victory over FlyQuest. Team Liquid dominated Clutch Gaming. Team SoloMid overcame the Golden Guardians in the longest match of the season and Echo Fox pulled off a major upset against OpTic Gaming.

Cloud9, CLG, TSM, and OpTic are all currently tied in second place in the LCS with 5-3 records. Team Liquid is sitting alone atop the standings at 6-2. Golden Guardians and Clutch Gaming are in sixth place at 4-4 but could still scratch their way up the ladder.

Most of the LCS is taking a break next week for Rift Rivals, which will see Cloud9, TSM, and Liquid take on the LEC’s G2 Esports, Fnatic, and Origen in a three-day event that starts on June 27. The 2019 LCS Summer Split will return on July 6.
