Luminosity Gaming opens LG Fortnite House, signs four influencers

Luminosity Gaming is expanding in a big way.
The Canadian organization announced the signing of four Fortnite personalities in Alex “Formula” Kushelevskiy, John “Kiwiz” Payne, Nick “Nicks” Spoerke, and Jordan “Randumb” Schneider. The players will live at the newly christened LG Fortnite House in Florida, which will both house Luminosity’s talent and serve as a content creation hub for the organization.
“We are on a mission to collaborate with players, influencers, and creators that can engage with our amazing fans, while we continue to build one of the leading esports team in the world,” Luminosity president Steve Maida in a statement.
The four influencers combine for over 7 million subscribers on YouTube and 900,000 followers on Twitter. They come from very different backgrounds with Formula starting his career in a management role, Kiwiz coming up as a YouTuber, and Nicks and Randumb having roots in Call of Duty before switching to Fortnite.
The move was made in an effort to increase Luminosity Gaming’s content production. Though Luminosity competes in a number of esports titles including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Call of Duty, the organization is looking to expand its stable of gaming influencers. This effort comes at a time when the organization is undergoing major changes.
Throughout 2019, Luminosity Gaming’s parent company 755 Capital Corp. has pulled the trigger on a number of major business deals. In March, Aquilini Gameco raised $18.7 million in an effort to acquire Luminosity and bankroll a number of growth initiatives in the company.
Aquilini Gameco is a part of the Aquilini Group, which owns the Vancouver Canucks. Aquilini had a previous working relationship with Luminosity through the Overwatch League’s Vancouver Titans. This was followed by a merger with gaming media company Enthusiast Gaming in May.
Though some were expecting the mergers and influx of capital to result in more esports teams for Luminosity, the organization’s first efforts seem to be dedicated to developing a larger influencer network. Whether that will continue, and whether this marks a change in direction for Luminosity, remains to be seen.
