Solary player Karim “Airwaks” Benghalia and DJ RL Grime are the winners of the Fortnite Pro-Am 2019.

The Summer Block Party closed on June 16 with the 2019 Celebrity Pro-Am, where Airwaks and RL Grime took the victory and the golden pickaxe.

The Forum was the destination for 50 duos made up of celebrities and pro gamers who put their Fortnite skills to the test. With a $3 million prize pool on the line, the duos competed through a series of competitive waves.

In the end, Airwaks and RL Grime would take the title with one victory royale and 29 eliminations for a total of 53 points. The duo earned $1 million that will go to the charity of their choosing.

On Twitter, Airwaks shared that he would be making a donation to the World Wide Fund for Nature in France.

Airwaks started his professional gaming career as a League of Legends jungler. He played his final season for ROCCAT and retired in 2017. In April 2018, he joined European esports organization Lunary as a Fortnite player before moving to Solary later in the year.

The 2019 Celebrity Pro-Am was a tight competition, with the first and second-place finishers ending with just a four-point difference separating them.

Two eliminations separated Airwaks and RL Grime from the runners-up, Aydan “Aydan” Conrad from Ghost Gaming and DJ duo Lost Kings. Aydan and Lost Kings won $500,000 for charity.

Turner “Tfue” Tenney and NBA player Josh Hart took the third place with 38 points.

To the disappointment of much of the audience, Tyler “Ninja” Blevin and former NFL player Marshawn Lynch missed out on the top 10. Jack “CouRage” Dunlop and Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo also failed to make it to the top.

The 2019 Celebrity Pro-Am is just a preview of what’s to come in the rest of the Fortnite competitive season. Airwaks, Tfue, and Aydan will meet again on July 26 when they compete in the 2019 Fortnite World Cup finals.
