Snappi leaves OpTic Gaming after Immortals purchase team
"As of today I am officially a free agent and no longer contracted to OpTic Gaming."
Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer's tweet this morning did not come as a shock to the majority of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community.
No official information has been released regarding Snappi's departure. But while the in-game leader helped the team win the last week of ECS Season 7 Europe, Snappi was no longer on the active roster by late May. He was replaced by Rene "TeSeS" Madsen right before the ESL One New York qualifier.
"Thanks to my former teammates for sharing experiences these last 14 months, I wish you the best going forward. Also a huge thank you to the fans for always staying commited and rooting for us, you guys were the best #greenwall," Snappi said.
The in-game leader has been part of the North American team since their fully Danish roster was created in April of last year. He transferred from Heroic along with his long-time teammate Jakob "JUGi" Hansen, which looked to be a promising roster move for OpTic.
But Snappi hasn't won a title during his 14 months with the team. The Danish side's best showing was a runner-up finish at DreamHack Open in the summer of 2018.
OpTic Gaming's new owners, Immortals Gaming Club, agreed to terminate the 29-year-old's contract. The organization is also looking to divest the remaining Danish roster to avoid a conflict of interest between OpTic and newly acquired Brazilian team MIBR.
