Dr. Disrespect Twitch ban leaves streaming future in limbo

Dr. Disrespect might be gone from Twitch.

The popular streamer hosted his first ever IRL stream during E3, but things soon went awry. After repeatedly bringing his stream into the men’s bathroom at the event, Dr. Disrespect was banned from Twitch. Additionally, ESA representatives confirmed to multiple outlets that he was also barred from reentering the event space.

The battle royale personality started his first IRL stream from the men’s bathroom of E3 before heading to the show floor. While the bulk of the stream featured Dr. Disrespect trying out upcoming games and taking selfies with excited fans, the camera kept rolling each time he returned to the bathroom. This was met with mixed reactions from other attendees who were not unanimously keen on being filmed.

He and his bodyguard “Dan the Body” were repeatedly shot urinating during the stream. Nothing was shown beyond men’s backs but the moments were apparently in violation of Twitch’s terms of service and content standards.

Will Dr. Disrespect be unbanned from Twitch?

Twitch’s ban of Dr. Disrespect became national news after it happened, with outlets like CNN and Vice covering the story. It also sparked a great deal of discussion from both esports and streaming personalities who had mixed reactions to Twitch’s ban including FaZe Clan player Turner “Tfue” Tenney who defended Dr. Disrespect and Fortnite star Tyler “Ninja” Blevins who stated the ban was justified.

Surprisingly, the only two parties that have been silent on the matter are Twitch and Dr. Disrespect himself. Twitch has issued no statement on the matter and Dr. Disrespect has been silent across all social media channels since the ban. That has left fans with no option but to sit and wonder whether or not he will return.

So will he? Generally speaking, first-time offenders receive a 24-hour ban for violations with escalating penalties for repeat offenders. That said, there are harsher penalties for different offenses which can be as severe as a permanent ban. It is unclear what specific rule Twitch banned him for and it is unclear how long he has been banned for.

Dr. Disrespect has already been banned for more than 24 hours, which is not a good sign for him and his fans. That said, odds are that he will be back before long. The popular streamer is among the highest earning streamers on Twitch, meaning the company would be missing out on a significant chunk of revenues without him.
