The OpTic Gaming Dota 2 division is done.

On Wednesday morning, OpTic announced the release of its Dota 2 team following a top-eight finish at The International 2018. Minutes later, this was followed by the reveal of a new team by ex-OpTic captain Peter “ppd” Dager.

OpTic entered the Dota 2 space shortly after The International 2017 with the acquisition of the PPD’s North American squad. After a rocky start to the season, the team turned its fortunes around in the spring with a first-place finish at the StarLadder Minor and a second-place run at ESL One Birmingham. Its season ended in August at TI8 with a solid eighth-place finish.

While the team may have just been a tweak or two away from greatness, this move marks a full reboot for both the players and the organization.

For his new team, PPD brings aboard fellow ex-OpTic player Neta “33” Shapira as well as two members of Team Secret: Adrian “Fata” Trinks and Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard. Rounding out the lineup is former Digital Chaos support Martin “Saksa” Sazdov.

According to PPD’s announcement, his new group is looking for a sponsor, and is open to playing in either North America or Europe. It’s a solid lineup on paper and should catch the eye of any western organization looking to add a new Dota 2 team to its portfolio.

As for OpTic, it is unknown whether the organization is looking to sign a new squad or if it will bow out of the game for the time being.
