The votes are in, and champions Volibear and Fiddlesticks are the winners of a fan vote determining which champions would be getting a new look in 2020.
In the month of May, Riot Games opened a public fan vote to help decide which champions would be receiving a comprehensive update in 2020. The options available for voting were Shyvana, Dr. Mundo, Nocturne, Fiddlesticks, and Volibear.
Originally, the plan was to pick only one champion, but after tallying the results Riot decided to pick both Fiddlesticks, who received 24.42% of the votes, and Volibear, who was just ahead at 24.69% of the recorded votes.
In China, Shyvana was the clear winner with 24.67% of the votes, and the Riot has said that the development studio will now be considering this champion for a future update.
This is not the first time Riot has asked players for help. A fan vote decided Little Demon Tristana as the latest skin for the tiny Yordle, and the new skin is now available in the store after patch 9.11.
Volibear is not a common pick in professional play but remains popular in the lower elo brackets. According to the announcement, the plan for this champion is to “preserve the spirit of current Volibear, allowing him to do cool bear things.” Volibear will get a new kit that particularly highlights his “thunder god” theme.
Fiddlesticks will be even scarier in 2020. Originally intended as a jungler, the Harbinger of Doom is often used as a support, especially in professional play. This champion provides the opportunity to ambush its enemies thanks to the Crowstorm ultimate.
Riot is looking to increase Fiddlestick’s playmaking by focusing on the ambushing part of its kit. As for the aesthetic, the designers are going for a spooky look.
The new Volibear and Fiddlestick are now in the planning stage and are set to be available in 2020.
