League of Legends announces team and fan passes for summer split
League of Legends has announced team and fan passes for the 2019 Summer Split. And they're both available tomorrow.
The two new viewing experiences will reward LoL players with new ways to support their favorite pro teams and show off their esports fandom. In the past, Riot Games offered esports-themed items for major events, like the Mid-Season Invitational and the World Championship, but this will be the first time that LCS fans can gain rewards simply by watching regular season games.
"We think it’s important that, as our sport continues to grow, our leagues, teams, and players share in our combined success," the League of Legends esports staff said in an official press release.
The team stated that they are very excited about the launches of the Team Pass and Fan Pass this season. They are already hoping to expand the concept even further in the future.
Fan Pass is available in the store for 980 RP. The purchasable set of premium missions will earn fans extra rewards for watching the 2019 Summer Split here. This includes icons, an emote, a ward skin, and a chroma for Dragonslayer Braum as well as Blue Essence, key fragmnts, and two masterwork chests. The pass will have a 50 percent revenue share with all pro league teams in the buyer's region.
For North American and European fans, the LCS and LEC Team Passes are centered around team-specific fandoms and rewards. Participants from these regions can select a team to support for the duration of the summer split. Watching that specific team's matches will complete missions that unlock team-specific in-game items, like team icons, a team emote, a team ward skin, and an LCS or LEC chroma for Dragonslayer Braum.
The LCS returns on Saturday, June 1. The format and start times are the same as for the spring split.
LCS broadcasts are currently available on watch.lolesports.com, Twitch, and on YouTube. The first match of the latest split will be Cloud9 versus FlyQuest at 2 PM PST.
