Clutch Gaming mid laner Tanner “Damonte” Damonte revealed that Cody Sun will be the team’s AD carry starting the first week of the LCS Summer Split.

“Scrimming with Cody has been great. He’s a very, very good player who also has a great head on his shoulders,” Damonte said in an interview with Travis Gafford.

Clutch Gaming has yet to officially announce the signing, although the organization hinted at Cody Sun’s main roster promotion when the team announced the summer schedule. Chae “Piglet” Gwang-jin was nowhere to be found. Instead, Cody Sun was featured in the photo.

Since the signing has not been officially announced by Clutch, Gafford was quick to ask for more details on the brand new information.

“I can’t get into too much detail,” Damonte said. “Some weird stuff happened. Nobody is mad at Piglet. Nothing bad happened. But we ended up scrimming with Cody Sun this past week. And it’s gone great.””

The bottom lane wasn’t a good match for Piglet last season. He ended the spring split with the lowest K/D ratio of any bottom laner in the entirety of the LCS. He also had the second highest number of deaths.

Clutch Gaming didn’t fare much better as a whole either. The team ended the regular season with a 5-13 record. According to Damonte, this wasn’t a true showing of the team’s potential.

After placing ninth in the spring, the team has found new motivation from its updated roster. Damonte said that Clutch Gaming has the potential to take fourth place this split, while Team Liquid, Cloud9, and Team SoloMid have an edge as the clear top three teams in the league.

“I don’t want to say anything outlandish just yet. There could be a crazy meta swap. But so far, we’re really good at this style. Fighting all the time. Being really fast. The meta is really in our favor,” Damonte said.

Clutch Gaming will face OpTic Gaming and Cloud9 in the team’s opening games. The LCS Summer Split begins on June 1.
