NBA2K League to Expand in 2019
The NBA 2K League will be expanding in 2019, as four expansion teams will join the league for its second season.
Four NBA affiliates will join 17 teams from the inaugural NBA 2K League season. The Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Minnesota Timberwolves have each thrown their hats into the ring.
The inaugural NBA 2K League season began in May 2018, and the league wasted no time in announcing they were ready to grow. 70% of NBA teams now have an NBA 2K League affiliate.
“Welcoming these four world-class organizations and their passionate fan bases to the NBA 2K League is an exciting moment not only for the league, but for the entire 2K community,” said NBA 2K League Managing Director Brendan Donohue in an official release.
The NBA2K League currently consists of a 14-game regular season sprinkled with weekend tournaments. Knicks Gaming, who went 5-9 in the regular season, qualified for playoffs by winning “The Ticket” event.
Knicks Gaming powered up through the playoffs and defeated tournament favorite Blazer5 Gaming to become the first ever NBA 2K League champion. Now, the team will have four new competitors coming for its title.
