G2 dominate Origen in LEC spring final to secure MSI ticket
G2 Esports was crowned 2019 LEC Spring champion after a one-sided series versus Origen.
G2 put on a show for the audience at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam. The three-game series showed the best and craziest side of the new champion.
Not one to shy away from crazy trends, G2 locked in Sona and Taric in game one. OG already had experience taking down this combination, but struggled to translate that success versus G2.
OG found some picks thanks to Erlend “Nukeduck” Våtevik Holm on Ryze. The mid laner was ready to go all in while G2 continued to take control of the map.
OG had small moments of brilliance but the G2 squad was clearly superior. The players believed in themselves and their ability to pull off the riskiest of plays. G2 would group as a four-man unit while Martin “Wunder” Hansen on Irelia pushed the side lanes.
Luka “Perkz” Perković and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle kept the team healthy and Wunder dealt the damage in team fights. A baron buff was enough for G2 to take the nexus.
Game two would have even more surprises. OG picked Sona and Taric this time, trying to repeat their success from Saturday. G2 responded by shocking analysts and fans alike with a funnel composition, with Perkz running smite on Xayah and scooting around the map with Mikyx on Rakan serving as his bodyguard.
Spring MVP Rasmus “Caps” Winther locked in Pyke and was on support duty while jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski on Morgana played in the bottom lane.
Origen jungler Jonas “Kold” Andersen on Rek’Sai stepped up to keep OG in the game, but his efforts were not enough. G2 grouped again while Wunder pushed the sides, Perkz achieved his 200th playoff kill, and G2 found a second victory.
G2 closed the series with a bang. Game three broke the record for the fastest game in the LEC history with an end at just 18 minutes. At this point, G2 was playing with their food. Perkz locked in the first bottom lane Neeko of the split and proceeded to destroy OG before the baron had even spawned.
G2 raised the trophy and earned a pass to the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational where they will face SK Telecom T1, Team Liquid, and other regional spring champions.
