Origen upsets Fnatic to set LEC finals rematch with G2 Esports
Origen is ready for round two against G2 Esports as the team made it to the LEC spring finals after a victory over Fnatic.
OG is getting a second chance against G2 but the squad first had to go through Fnatic. Coming into this match, many favored Fnatic considering the dominating performance the team had in the final weeks of the regular season.
In game one, Fnatic opted for Sona and Taric in the bottom lane and Kindred in the jungle. OG was ready to counter this popular strategy with burst damage and a Blitzcrank pick in the hands of support Alfonso “Mithy” Aguirre Rodríguez.
Fnatic went for greedy plays but soon it became clear that the players were struggling to execute the new composition. They still had good moments, but in the end, OG secured a baron buff and the win.
In game two it was time for OG to show how it’s done. They drafted Sona and Taric with better engaging tools like a Jarvan for top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris and Skarner for Jonas “Kold” Andersen.
OG played a patient game and waited for Fnatic to make mistakes. Desperate to get anything they could on the map, Fnatic went for hard engagements and aggressive plays without complete information. OG punished them for it and claimed a second victory.
Both teams went for standard compositions with Origen at match point. Fnatic focused on the bottom lane, putting Mithy and Origen bot laner Patrik “Patrik” Jírů behind. The duo couldn’t recover and that was enough for Fnatic to get a win.
In game four, Fnatic repeated four out of five champions from the previous game. OG identified this one-dimensional style from their opposition and played a more organized game to counter it. Supports Mithy and Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov both roamed early pressuring the map’s other lanes.
Cool, calm, and collected, OG played around their solo lanes and zoned out Fnatic carry Martin “Rekkles” Larsson in the team fights. OG secured a baron and sieged the enemy base. The siege was long but in the end, OG reached the nexus and finished the series.
OG is moving to the final against G2. These teams met in round three when G2 came out victorious with a strong 3-0 sweep.
