100 Thieves headed to Berlin Major to start building new CSGO team

American esports organization 100 Thieves will be returning to the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive scene.

After teasing a return to the game in July, 100 Thieves founder Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag is looking to make those plans to reality. The former Call of Duty pro tweeted that he will be in attendance for the final days of the StarLadder Berlin Major to meet and scout CSGO talent.

“I am so damn excited to enter CSGO and assemble a Championship caliber roster,” Nadeshot shared. “We are flying to Berlin next week for the conclusion of the Major with a goal of signing players that are hungry to build a winning legacy here with 100 Thieves.”

100 Thieves will be looking to avoid the sad fate of its previous teams.

100 Thieves’s new CSGO team needs to avoid fate of old one

100 Thieves signed a Brazilian squad previously sponsored by Immortals in 2017, but the team never even competed for the organization. Player Vito “kNgV-” Giuseppe was released after making homophobic remarks during an argument on Twitter. This was followed by the rest of the team being cut due to visa issues.

The move also comes following the dissolutions of the 100 Thieves Apex Legends and Call of Duty teams. 100 Thieves was one of several North American organizations, including Cloud9 and Immortals, that divested from Apex Legends due to the lingering lack of tournament support for the game. Shortly thereafter, they bowed out of Call of Duty due to the upcoming, Overwatch League-style franchising format that will include city-based teams around the world.

100 Thieves is in position to instantly become a contender in Counter-Strike. The organization has substantial resources behind it to build a team, and there are already a number of former major-winning players currently available in free agency. That number will only increase following the Berlin Major and 100 Thieves should be able to pull together a supergroup of a team.
