hated cs2 maps

If you’re a Counter-Strike player, you probably have that one map you always ban first in every Premier game — and you’re not alone as almost everyone has one too. Below, we’ll take a look at the most hated maps in Counter-Strike history and explain why they are disliked by the community at large.

Anubis

Anubis is one of the newer releases in the Counter-Strike 2 map pool, but it has already become one of the least-liked ones, especially for casual players.

The main reason why people hate Anubis is because it’s heavily T-sided. The bomb sites provide CTs with barely any cover, making them extremely hard to hold properly. The Ts can easily rush into the site and see CTs out in the open. All they need is a bit of utility, and executes become so easy — it’s that simple.

This imbalance between the two sides shows up pretty clearly in professional play too. It’s actually pretty common to see teams get blown out 2-10 on their CT side, then pull off a comeback on the T side to force overtime or just win the map outright.

Counter-Strike isn’t that fun when you just get steamrolled for an entire half, which is why most Premier players tend to ban this map very early on.

Vertigo

There’s no doubt that Vertigo is the most confusing map for even the best Counter-Strike players, with newer players finding it difficult to settle into.

Vertigo is held on a skyscraper, meaning the map has multiple floors. There are lots of stairs and ladders that just throw people off. The thing is, many players complain that the sound cues are also very difficult to figure out — sometimes it’s hard to tell which floor footsteps and gunfire are actually coming from.

This map also has lots of tight chokepoints, so you might get greeted with a grenade straight to your face 10 seconds into a round. Many players tend to throw smokes at these chokepoints and just spray and pray. This is why many players just die through smokes in Vertigo rounds.

This is why you almost never see people picking Vertigo in Premier or FACEIT when it’s in the map pool, with other, less controversial ones chosen instead.

Overpass

Overpass is pretty much every solo queue player’s nightmare. The map can be a little tricky and will require a lot of teamwork and proper coordination. So, if you’re playing alone, it’s going to be very difficult to get on the same page with the rest of your teammates.

For the longest time, Overpass has also been considered one of the most CT-sided maps in the game, making the T side a miserable experience. There are lots of long sightlines around the map, making it paradise for CT side AWPers to just constantly pick you off. Life is way too easy for them.

That’s why Overpass isn’t really a beginner-friendly map, and even experienced players avoid playing it in pugs if they’re not queued as a five stack. There’s just way too much effort required to play on this map.

Inferno

Inferno is another map that’s been in the active map pool for a very long time. When Valve dropped CS2, they also revamped Inferno, making it look pretty with new graphics. However, the issue was that many agent skins were blending into the map. Of course, you don’t need to be an expert to tell why it’s not ideal for Counter-Strike.

The most iconic part of Inferno is Banana. Almost every single round on this map starts with both teams fighting for the area. So, both sides are chucking grenades and molotovs — sometimes a nade lands right under your feet, and you’re down to half health before you even see a person.

Not to mention, retaking sites on Inferno feel impossible if you don’t have a man-advantage. That’s why most professional players don’t go for retakes at all. If their bomb site falls, they just save, which can be extremely boring for viewers.

Mirage

Last but not least, we have Mirage, but it’s a different case compared to the other maps on this list. There’s nothing really wrong with Mirage – it’s not broken or unbalanced. The main reason why people hate it is because they’re tired of playing it.

Mirage has been in the map pool for god knows how long now, and it has never been swapped out. Even Dust 2 – the most popular map in the game – was rotated out at one point. Then, Valve has made no changes to Mirage, so it’s been the exact same map for decades.

So, many people hate Mirage because they’re just burned out. In Premier or FACEIT matches, there are always those guys who default to picking Mirage every single game – and it’s hard not to get tired of it.

We hope this guide has shown you why certain CS2 maps are hated by the community, so you now know what to avoid next time you play yourself of visit a CS2 betting site.
