Midnite has launched into Canada

After five years with FanDuel’s Canadian side, Dale Tang is taking over the Canadian launch of Midnite. Midnite is an online sports betting outlet similar to FanDuel. Tang confirmed the move in a LinkedIn post, revealing that he will oversee the launch and management of the company’s expansion into the Canadian market.

Midnite wants to expand into Canada, so they’re hiring someone who has vast experience in the field — all five years that Dale Tang worked for FanDuel, one of the largest sportsbooks available, were spent managing the Canadian arm.

More specifically, Tang functioned as the senior director for commercial, analytics, and retention in Canada. That is not the extent of his work in the country, though. Prior to FanDuel, he also worked in several senior roles with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. He has consulted for BDO Canada as well.

“Five years ago, I had the chance to join FanDuel Canada in its earliest days,” Tang said in his announcement post. “Along the way, I learned from exceptional leaders and incredible peers – and most importantly, had the chance to build an amazing team I got to work alongside every day. Will always be rooting for every one of you!”

He called it the “most rewarding” stage of his career, and he intimated that leaving FanDuel for Midnite was “anything but easy”. Still, the opportunity to try to build something brand-new in Canada is a rare one, so he’s leaving FanDuel to take on a new challenge with Midnite.

This is just the latest stage in Midnite’s expansion plan. The UK-based company continues to attempt global growth, with the North American country simply the next step in their plan. Earlier in 2026, they secured $35 million in Series C funding to support the growth, according to Next.io.

Editor’s view

Growth into previously untouched markets is vital for any business, as was seen with prediction market Underdog earlier this year. When it’s a sportsbook, though, it can be a little more important. The US is dominated by FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and others. In Canada, those are not quite as prominent, so there are more inroads to be made.

And if Midnite is going to grow in Canada as they appear set to, then they need someone who knows a thing or two about the country. It would help if that someone also had ample experience working in this field. In both senses, Dale Tang is the perfect person to helm this project.

Midnite began as an online sportsbook in 2018. Eventually, they expanded to include casino and horse racing products in 2023. Now, they’re expanding outward as well as upward, and hiring Tang to help lead them in this new direction seems like an absolutely foolproof plan.
