Marvel Rivals to nerf the Triple Strategist line-up.

As Marvel Rivals reaches the halfway point in Season 1, they have plans for a number of adjustments – including some that will shake-up and nerf the triple strategist meta.

The first half of Marvel Rivals Season 1 is almost over, and changes are on the way. Players have already gotten a sneak peek at some of the mid-season adjustments, including a quickly walked-back rank reset change. Marvel Rivals has been dipping its toes into the esports world as well. In the most recent game announcement, the development team revealed they would be tackling potential meta issues as well as adding new features.

Though there are many possible team compositions, the triple strategist comp may be too strong for most. Fortunately for anyone not running those teams, Marvel rivals is issuing new nerfs soon.

Marvel Rivals set to make readjustments for the triple strategist comp

After spending a lot of time at the top of the meta, the triple strategist comp is due to slip in Marvel Rivals rankings with upcoming nerfs.

Typical team line-ups in Marvel Rivals consist of two strategists, two duelists, and two vanguards. However, the triple strategist model recently entered the meta with an extra focus on survivability and utility rather than pure damage. Some players indicate that it is appearing more in higher-ranked matches in which most players are capably skilled. While not impossible to beat, many complain about constantly having to deal more damage after a barrage of healing. The only good counter is to try and take out the strategists as quickly as possible.

In the most recent dev update, lead combat designer Zhiyong acknowledged that strategists’ quick ultimate recharge may allow them to counter other teams too easily. This can also greatly slow a match’s pace. Zhiyong further clarified that they do not want to kill the triple strategist line-up in Marvel Rivals entirely, but instead make it easier and more fun to counter.

To address these issues, the dev team is increasing energy costs for fast charging ultimates and nerfing ultimates for specific heroes like Cloak and Dagger. They also intend to reduce energy costs for other heroes, including Venom and Magik. Vanguards Magneto and Doctor Strange will also receive survivability nerfs while other movement vanguards will get boosts to shake up team compositions even more.

Season 1 midway point to add new heroes, new way to use Chrono Tokens

Alongside the triple strategist nerf, players can expect to see new hero adjustments and more coming up in Marvel Rivals.

The second half of Marvel Rivals Season 1 has some big hero changes coming. For starters, the Human Torch and The Thing are finally entering the game to round out the Fantastic Four. The Human Torch will join the duelist pool, while The Thing is a vanguard. Players can also look forward to updated win rates from the first half of Season 1 to then be followed by more adjustments. Zhiyong confirmed that they were finally nerfing Moon Knight’s overpowered ultimate.

Additionally, the development team confirmed they would be adjusting Chrono Tokens. Previously, players who finished the battle pass but had extra Chrono Tokens left over would be forced to waste them. They now have the option to exchange them instead for Units to spend on extra cosmetics. Importantly, this change may only be possible for players who purchase the luxury battle pass.

Any one of the new changes, from new heroes to the triple strategist adjustments, could end up changing how players game in Marvel Rivals. If they play well enough, perhaps it could even earn them the coveted gold rank Human Torch costume in April.
