As predicted by the Marvel Rivals community, the second half of Season 1 is coming very soon — and it’s bringing some massive changes, including a rank reset that players are not happy about.
Marvel Rivals developers discussed how their seasons will work earlier this year and Season 1 is following the predicted pattern. Every Marvel Rivals season (besides Season 0) will last for three months, including two halves about a month and a half long each. While many heroes and villains have been leaked, developers confirmed that only two are coming per season — one at the start and one halfway through. Season 1 is a little different, however, bringing four new characters and plenty of content.
The second half of Season 1 will begin on February 21, 2025, with two new heroes and a rank reset for players. At this time, players should expect some big updates to the game’s content and competitive mode.
First, The Thing and The Human Torch will arrive. This has been expected since Season 0 thanks to some prominent leakers and was later confirmed when developer NetEase shared a teaser for the arrival of Mr Fantastic and Invisible Woman at the start of the season. The arrival of The Thing as a Vanguard and Human Torch as a Duelist will round out the Fantastic Four. The rest of the roster will also be getting “major balance adjustments,” according to developers.
Ranks from the first half of Season 1 will also be finalized on February 21. Players that are Gold or above will get a costume reward while Grandmaster ranks and higher will get the Crest of Honor. Ranks will then be reset for the second half of the season. Players should expect a drop of four divisions, which not many players are happy about. Start the grind again and players can earn a new costume and new crest at the end of Season 1.
After evaluating the first half of Season 1, developers have concluded that “players’ ranks during the first half of Season 1 are the best indicator of their competitive skills within the season.” The reset is meant to ensure that players are more aligned with upcoming content in the game. Going forward, players will drop six divisions when each season starts and then four divisions during the second half.
“Thank you for your passionate support and stay tuned on our official channels for the latest news about the second half of Season 1!” developers concluded.
Only time will tell if Marvel Rivals will shape up to be a competitive title in the esports scene following its success with a broader player base. The first big tournament is approaching with the Eternal Night Falls Marvel Rivals Championship coming in early March. It will be interesting to see if the Fantastic Four fit into the competitive meta and are used by any top teams competing.
