Marvel Rivals backtracks on rank reset after player backlash
Marvel Rivals backtracks on rank reset after player backlash
After a wave of backlash, Marvel Rivals won’t have any mid-season rank resets after all, allowed players to earn rewards without additional grinding being required.
Competitive games usually have a rank reset feature to ensure things are kept fair and to keep players engaged. Whether it be so players can’t sit on a high rank without playing more matches or forcing players to work hard to earn the season’s ranked rewards, rank resets are usually done at the start of every season. However, Marvel Rivals was planning to
implement mid-season rank resets
in addition to the usual reset timing.
Understandably, the mid-season rank reset idea was met with much backlash. Players wanted more time to reach higher ranks, and high-ranked players didn’t want to repeat the ordeal. Thanks to this, a new
Marvel Rivals blog post
revealed the game won’t have any mid-season rank resets.
When will your Marvel Rivals rank reset?
After the mid-season rank reset announcement caused controversy, the ranks of Marvel Rivals players will reset at the start of every new season.
Rank reset was initially meant for the middle of the season for multiple reasons. Firstly, the mid-season is slated to bring two new playable heroes in The Thing and Human Torch. Additionally, players will get rank rewards based on their ranks at the end of the mid-season, including the Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin for those who reach Gold rank or higher.

The release of the mid-season update will also bring new ranked and seasonal rewards. This includes a new skin for reaching the Gold rank and multiple Crests of Honor. Thanks to the removal of mid-season rank resets, those already Gold or above only need to play ten competitive games after the mid-season update to be eligible for the new seasonal ranked rewards.
There aren’t any new delays in when the first half of the season ends. Players can still expect the mid-season update on February 21, 2025.
How many ranks will fall in the Marvel Rivals rank reset?
According to the initial announcement, Marvel Rivals players will see their rank drop by six divisions after a seasonal rank reset.
For example, those who end
the first season
on Diamond I will start the next season at Gold I. Players must still play the required minimum of ten games to be eligible for seasonal ranked rewards.
The original plan was to drop the player’s rank by four divisions after the mid-season rank reset. That would be followed by a fall of six divisions after the seasonal reset. Now that the mid-season rank reset plan has been scrapped, it’s unknown if the seasonal rank reset will be more impactful.
