Le Fisherman brings a fun fishing theme to Hacksaw’s slot series

Le Fisherman is the latest entry in Hacksaw Gaming’s long-running slot series, swapping Parisian streets in this edition for a quiet lakeside while keeping the core mechanics that made Smokey the Raccoon a familiar and beloved face.
Developer Hacksaw Gaming has released dozens of slots over the past few years, but the Le series remains its biggest hit. After Bandit, Rapper, King, and several other variations, the provider now dives into the popular fishing theme with Le Fisherman. This time around, the familiar raccoon trades city streets for a lakeside setup, fully kitted out in fishing gear and ready to reel in the catch of the day.

How to best play the Le Fisherman slot
A 96.33% RTP and a 15,000x max win set expectations high in Le Fisherman, but reaching either depends entirely on how its Golden Squares chain together.
The base game’s real purpose in this fishing slot is to seed Golden Squares in awkward places, especially the middle columns. You actually want messy boards, mixed symbols, uneven clusters, and partial cascades. Clean boards reset too easily, reducing the impact when a Rainbow finally lands. A weak cascade that leaves Golden Squares behind is more valuable than a tidy win that clears the grid.

Rainbows are important, but bettors would want to keep an eye on coin value, not density. Multiple low-value Coins sitting near potential Bucket zones will usually outperform a single high-value Coin stranded in a corner.
- Regular Buckets collect Coins, Buckets, and Global Buckets in a 3×3 area only.
- Global Buckets ignore position and collect everything.
- Once a Bucket collects, it’s done. It will not collect again.
That means that spacing matters. If you see two Buckets appear too close early, that’s often a bad sign. You want delayed activation, where Coins and Clovers multiply first, then Buckets sweep late.
The game’s free spins mode is where its wins can really strike, and there are a total of three features that bettors should watch for.
- On Thin Ice
- The Big Catch
- Slipper When Wet
- Smokey Under Water
On Thin Ice is the most forgiving of the four free-spin modes because it lets the board develop before forcing payouts. Golden Squares remain in place until a Rainbow activates them, which reduces wasted reveals and allows Coin and Bucket setups to form naturally.
The Big Catch Bar is what gives this mode direction. Each landed FS symbol pushes progression forward, and higher levels change what Rainbows turn into. By the time Level 4 is reached, guaranteed Rainbow or Epic Rainbow symbols mean repeated activations, which is why this bonus offers the most reliable path to strong returns.
However, that sense of control quickly disappears in Slippery When Wet. While it keeps the same core mechanics, Golden Squares remain locked even after activation, which turns Le Fisherman into a highly volatile game. Early Epic Rainbows can trigger before Coin values or Bucket chains have time to scale, freezing low totals in place.
Smokey Under Water addresses that timing problem by removing progression entirely. Starting at Level 4 guarantees Rainbow or Epic Rainbow activations on every spin, eliminating slow starts and dead bonuses. However, that consistency comes with a trade-off. Because the Big Catch Bar no longer needs to be built, there’s less opportunity for Coin values and Bucket interactions to grow before repeated activations begin.
If you’re buying features, the 60x buy offers the cleanest balance of setup and upside. The 500x Epic Drop can turn a big result for particularly lucky players, but it’s far from a value play given its long odds. Most players are better off looking at lower-priced feature buys that can still accelerate the game and provide significant winning opportunities.
Le Fisherman is now available to play on Stake, and as our Stake review shows, it’s one of the best spots online to try new slots including Le Fisherman.
