Lacy Turns Off Twitch Ads — Here’s What the Streamer Has To Say

Nick “Lacy” Fosco announced in a recent Twitch stream that he wants his viewers to enjoy his content and is turning off ads from all his future broadcasts.

Lacy was last in the limelight when he announced that he was leaving CORE, the streamer organization that was primarily comprising the ex-FaZe boys. He then hosted a gaming marathon with Marlon “Mar3lg” Lundgren Garcia in September, and now Lacy is going viral once again. This time the news is seemingly positive, as Lacy has announced that he is turning off his Twitch ads to improve the experience of his viewers.

The news comes amid comments from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, where he revealed that AI is being used to link creators with relevant brands; this can have a direct impact on ad revenue.

Lacy claims that he has become the first streamer in the world to stream without ads enabled. He explained that he’s making enough money to live relatively comfortably, and considers making more money “greed”. The streamer elaborated that he wants fans to enjoy his content and they can drop or gift subs if they want, but stated he has “officially turned off his ads”.

Lacy revealed that he was making between $150,000 and $200,000 from ads monthly, but he has now changed his ads to the lowest setting possible. This means that only 30 seconds of video ads will be shown per hour in Lacy’s streams going forward. The creator elaborated that this is a way for him to thank his viewers for supporting him. He also claimed that he likely won’t make money from streaming anymore but will continue for the “love of the game”.

Viewers were quick to react, with some alleging that Lacy was being performative, as he didn’t completely turn off the ads. They claim that the streamer will still have some ads show and will earn revenue from them, as he set the slider to its lowest setting. Others compared this to Charles “MoistCr1TiKaL” White Jr., who reportedly became the first streamer to actually turn off ads completely.

The debate that has started after Lacy’s announcement is whether the streamer is actually going to lose out on ad revenue or if the frequency of the adverts shown on his streams will slow down. Lacy initially claimed that he had turned off ads but then revealed that the button was still on, and he had moved the slider to the lowest setting.

This hasn’t sat well with many viewers, which is why there has been some backlash against the streamer for seemingly trying to fool his viewers. Temporary gimmick or not, it can’t be denied that dropping ads to just 30 seconds per hour will likely have a significant effect on the streamer’s revenue.
