All you need to know before playing the Knights vs Barbarians slot
Knights vs Barbarians is one of developer Pragmatic Play’s more complex slot releases, and may be a perfect fit for fans who enjoyed the previous Zeus vs Typhons and Zeus vs Hades releases from the prolific provider.
Pragmatic has recently been releasing faster and punchier slots that feel closer to what some of the industry’s newer studios are pushing out. Those releases are fun in their own right, but the provider is better known for its heavier, wilds-driven mechanics like those found in Zeus vs Hades. With Knights vs Barbarians, Pragmatic returns to the VS formula, delivering exactly what the name suggests.
The slot is set around two opposing symbol groups, with Knight and Barbarian icons driving the core mechanics. Both factions tie directly into the center-reel modifier, where matching scatters can turn their symbols into wilds or trigger multipliers, shaping most of the game’s volatility and win potential.
How to best play Knights vs Barbarians
Pragmatic Play’s Knights vs Barbarians is a slot set on a 5×3 battlefield, with visual and sound design clear enough to actually take you back into its medieval era. While the game’s visuals theme is by no means unique to it, there are enough features here to keep seasoned bettors hooked.
| Feature | Info |
|---|---|
| RTP | 96.51% |
| Max win | 10,000x |
| Bet size | $0.2 – $240 |
| Layout | 5-3 |
The game’s heavy features look nice from a distance, but in order to win, it’s crucial to really understand where Knights vs Barbarians pays the best. This is a volatility-first slot, so the goal isn’t chasing frequent hits, but rather positioning yourself around the center mechanic.
Most meaningful wins come when symbol conversions stack, not from raw paylines. That makes spins where the middle square activates far more valuable than regular line wins, especially when high-paying symbols like the Knight, Barbarian, or their helmets are already on screen.
In the base game, your best opportunities come when the grid naturally loads with faction symbols before the center triggers. For example, a screen showing multiple Knight helmets or Barbarian axes becomes far more valuable if the matching scatter lands in the middle.
The center symbol mechanic is where most edge comes from:
- Knight Scatter: Converts Knight, Knight helmet, and mace symbols into wilds. This is strongest when premium Knight symbols already cover multiple reels.
- Barbarian Scatter: Converts Barbarian, Barbarian helmet, and axe symbols into wilds. Slightly more common visually, but it still relies on screen density.
- Battle Scatter: The real ceiling play. It assigns a random multiplier (up to x100) and converts the winning side into multiplier wilds. This is where most 4-digit x potential lives.
Are free spins worth buying in Knights vs Barbarians?
Similar to many of the other Pragmatic warfare slots, players should know that free spins are where the Knights vs Barbarians slot truly shows its potential to pay up. The center position only lands special scatters during the bonus, meaning every spin carries modifier potential.
Retriggers from free spin scatters (2–10 extra spins) are critical because longer bonuses increase the chance of landing stacked Battle multipliers, which is where the game’s top-end wins are most likely to hit.

If you’re using special bets, don’t treat them as interchangeable because they push the game in completely different directions. Ante Bet is the more practical option, as it keeps the full feature set intact and simply boosts your chances of triggering free spins. You’re still playing the normal game, just getting to the bonus feature more often.
Super Spin is a different mindset entirely. It guarantees a center modifier every spin but removes free spin scatters from the equation, so you’re trading long-session upside for short bursts of volatility.
This is a great option for slots and casino streamers who want to push hard for the game’s biggest wins and the resulting excitement that comes with them, and most bettors will find it to have more lucrative potential than the Ante Bets option.
Overall, Knights vs Barbarians is a solid slot and worth giving a try. It’s not exactly ground-breaking in terms of gameplay or theme, but it’s not a bad thing. The slot is based on Pragmatic’s tried and tested formula that bettors are proven to enjoy. For those looking to play, the slot is now available on Stake, which our Stake review has found to be one of the best sites for trying out new slots just like Knights vs Barbarians.
