Kick to roll out new algorithm, Eddie Craven explains it in stream
Kick to roll out new algorithm, Eddie Craven explains it in stream
Livestreaming platform Kick announced that it will soon be rolling out a new algorithm, which may help smaller creators get more exposure whilst limiting viewbotting, and co-founder Eddie Craven has discussed the new system in depth.
Viewbotting has become a massive issue in the streaming world, with platforms such as Twitch and Kick trying new ways to restrict the abuse. The platforms may find that eradiciting the issue in full may not be possible, but they
continuously release new methods that may help limit the impact on creators.
Kick is already testing the recommendation system with viewers, and Bijan Tehrani announced that the algorithm is slated to be rolled out in the coming days. He also revealed that over
500 of the worst botters have been banned
ahead of the algorithm’s launch. Viewers have expressed excitement at the algorithm prioritizing their preferences while also potentially nerfing viewbotting.

Kick’s new algorithm aims to change how discovery works while combating viewbotting
The Kick X account posted a video highlighting an upcoming change where viewers will get a personalized algorithm that will recommend their favorite streamers to the curated “For You” section. Kick co-founder Bijan Tehrani elaborated on the brief announcement by stating that the platform is “leveling the playing field on discovery.”
He explained that the algorithm will not prioritize high-to-low viewer streams, which will remove the incentive of viewbotting.
The platform wants to reward organic streams, rather than promoting broadcasts with inflated views.
Fellow co-founder Eddie Craven talked about the algorithm in a stream, stating that previously, this process was done manually. This allowed Kick staff to promote up-and-coming streamers, but it’s getting harder, as the platform now boasts more than 25,000 creators. The new algorithm will automate the process and show viewers the streamers that they may be interested in. More updates are planned, and Kick will also track and
remove botters.

Viewers will notice that all the displays other than the carousel will be changed. The homepage will get particularly interactive, while the category, browse, and following pages will also be affected. The main goal for the algorithm is to make viewbotting a negative incentive — viewbotting won’t be removed by the algorithm, but streamers won’t benefit from inflating their views.
Meanwhile, Craven has also recently shed light on the
rollout of ads on Kick, with the platform currently in the testing stage.
