Kick hits 100 million users, co-founder talks future

Livestreaming platform Kick announced that it has reached 100 million users three years after launching, and co-founder Bijan Tehrani has given some insight about what they have planned for the future.
Kick launched in 2022, at a time when its one true rival, Twitch, was being criticized for restricting certain content and giving streamers a less favorable revenue split. In stark contrast, Kick offered creators more creative freedom and a 95/5 revenue split, which sent a shockwave through the streaming industry. This revenue and content model helped Kick secure some of the biggest content creators, and now the platform has officially hit the 100 million users milestone.
Bijan Tehrani celebrates 100 million users by discussing Kick’s shortcomings
Kick’s co-founder Bijan Tehrani expressed his pride in the platform reaching 100 million users in roughly three years, but also stated that “we aren’t where we need to or should be”.
Bijan didn’t mince words. Taking to X, he said the company has kept the beta tag in its logo because they rushed to the market with “weak plumbing, purchase tech, and lacked dependable streaming”. Companies and executives typically express more pride rather than self-reflection after reaching such a big milestone, which has been noted by Kick users. Many responded by commending the co-founder for admitting where Kick was lacking, and also appreciated that he provided a list of things that are getting better or are planned.

Tehrani shared on X that Kick has been quietly rebuilt and that the platform will now move in a new direction. He acknowledged that the Kick “app sucks,” but said that it’s being rebuilt completely, and he is personally involved in the process. The Kick co-founder took a dig at Twitch, saying they won’t follow the Amazon-backed platform and make their app “full tiktokify”.
Arguably the biggest piece of information Bijan shared was that Kick has ended all the massively high-paying contracts. He stated they weren’t worth it, as they provided short-term growth at the expense of good content. Bijan revealed that this financial decision has allowed Kick to invest in partners via clipping and KPP. He also shared that thousands of accounts have been removed and rejected from KPP for viewbotting. Tens of millions have been removed for being fake spam accounts.
Bijan Tehrani ended his social media post by revealing some information about Kick’s future. He said the next step is to nurture real creators so they won’t have to compete with bots or rely on staff favoritism. The co-founder also announced that Kick is rolling out its V1 algorithm, which Bijan claims “will make Kick the best long-form streaming platform for authentic engagement and discovery”.
Lastly, Tehrani confirmed that Kick has started to roll out ads, but stated that viewers may not have noticed them because they are non-obtrusive. Bijan Tehrani expressed his commitment to Kick and revealed that he and Eddie Craven have invested roughly $1 billion into the platform.
Kick’s rapid success can at least partly be attributed to its welcoming of casino streamers, with 24/7 streams of big wins at new crypto casinos especially popular.

Khizar Mundia has been playing video games for as long as he can recall. Things have come a long way since the many days he spent playing the original NES, though. He now covers a variety of competitive games and esports, as well as the world of streaming, ranging from Twitch to Kick. If it’s of interest to gamers, it’s of interest to Khizar.
