KeSPA Cup 2026

The KeSPA Cup is slated to return sooner than most expected, though its date and exclusive Disney+ partnership raises some questions.

The KeSPA Cup is an annual tournament organized directly by the Korea e-Sports Association. While it doesn’t get nearly as much attention as Riot-organized leagues and events, LCK powerhouses still participate in it.

2025’s KeSPA Cup is still fairly fresh since it took place in December. This year’s tournament has just been announced, but it’s shrouded in confusion. From the odd dates to the inconvenient venues, 2026’s KeSPA Cup has a lot of hurdles to overcome.

2026’s KeSPA Cup to take place in the middle of the season

While the KeSPA Cup has traditionally taken place near the end of the year, 2026 will see it held in the middle of the season.

Announced during the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational, this year’s KeSPA Cup will return on July 20 and will feature all 10 LCK teams. This means that fans will see LCK giants such as T1, Gen.G, and Hanwha Life Esports duke it out on the big stage.

The tournament’s group stage and quarterfinals will run online from July 20 to August 11 exclusively on Disney+. On the other hand, the semifinals and final will take place offline at the Daejeon Esports Stadium on August 17 and 18.

While the dates were already bound to be confusing, considering the separation from what has become an annual tradition, that isn’t the only reason to worry about this year’s KeSPA Cup. 2026’s Esports World Cup will conclude on July 19. Therefore, the LCK team participating in the grand final will have a single day to prepare for the KeSPA Cup.

If this wasn’t enough, many of the KeSPA Cup’s matches will clash with the regular LCK Rounds 3-4’s schedule. This includes the KeSPA Cup’s semifinals and grand final. The LCK matches are scheduled to be played at LoL Park in Seoul. It’ll definitely be tough for any participating team to travel to the Daejeon Esports Stadium within hours, or vice versa.

The KeSPA Cup has historically imposed unnecessary restrictions on itself. This includes region-locking last year’s tournament to Korea only, which could also be the case this year. It’s unknown whether the LCK’s organizations will have to schedule matches around the KeSPA Cup.

2025’s KeSPA Cup also saw some teams send benched players or substitutes instead of their main rosters. This included Gen.G, which didn’t have players like Chovy in the mix. There’s a higher chance that this will repeat this year. Otherwise, the pressure on the competing players will be too much.
