Kai Cenat Talks Streamer University, Vivet, and Streaming Future
Kai Cenat recently sat down with The New York Times for an interview. In a wide-ranging discussion, the Twitch streamer talked about what he looks for in Streamer University participants, and also delved into both his Vivet brand, as well as what the future holds.
Kai Cenat may have gone on a break following his massively successful Mafiathon 3, but the creator returned with with a bang in Streamer University 2026. While the streamer didn’t elaborate on his break and why he couldn’t continue streaming while working on Vivet, fans were overjoyed all the same at his return.
Kai has since done two gaming marathons with Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. and even announced Vivet’s inaugural fashion show. Cenat’s recent interview revealed more about down to talk about his Streamer University concept, as well as his Vivet brand.

Kai Cenat says he looks for “hungry” streamers, not creators who can bring views to Streamer University
Streamer University was a major topic of discussion during the interview, and Cenat explained what he looks for when selecting students. The creator said he wants students with a strong work ethic who can turn small ideas into big concepts, troubleshoot tech, and bring original content. Interestingly, he elaborated that just view count isn’t a metric he considers when selecting students. The creator said what makes a streamer good is the ability to take something small and make it big.
Kai Cenat stated that “hungry” creators don’t let anything get in their way, and that’s what makes a good streamer. The streamer then gave an example of a creator who has just 20 viewers but is streaming like he has a huge viewer base. Kai Cenat said that inspired even him, as that shows the potential of the small creator.
Kai Cenat says Vivet is for both budget and luxury customers

Vivet was a major focus of the interview, as its inaugural fashion show is just around the corner. Kai Cenat wore a Vivet tracksuit to the interview and discussed several things about his brand, including that he has no investors and has invested millions of dollars of his own money. He also explained why he has kept both budget and expensive options in his brand. Cenat says he wants everyone to use his brand, and that can only happen if he caters to all types of customers.
The American also talked about how he felt he was pressed against a wall by all the hate he got when he announced Vivet. He then said he had an epiphany when he realized that, regardless of the feedback, so many people were talking about his brand. Cenat realized that people were talking about the product rather than attacking him. The streamer said he started thinking that the product hasn’t been revealed yet, so the feedback is mostly anticipation. Kai revealed that he even printed out many hateful comments, pasted them on a board, and used it as motivation.
An interesting fact about Vivet’s inaugural fashion show, which took place on September 12, is that it was a “see-now-buy-now” event. Kai Cenat stated that he has been to fashion shows where he’d have to wait months to buy the products he likes, and that upset him. He stated that his viewers are “interactive” and will likely want to press a button and buy now, so that’s why he is introducing this format to his event.

In the interview, Cenat’s start in streaming was also covered, including he became such a massive icon in the industry. They questioned Kai about the NYC Union Square riot that started when the creator was dabbling in IRL streaming and was doing a giveaway event alongside AMP. Cenat explained that thousands of people came out, and he was even taken in by the police. The streamer revealed he was scared and indicated that’s why he has never done similar IRL content again.
Cenat also talked about why he keeps bright lights in his streams, starting with the fact that he wants viewers to see everything. He revealed that he even has bright lights when sleeping in a marathon stream, so viewers don’t just get a dark screen.
Kai talked about his future, stating that he will never lose his passion for streaming and will continue creating content for as long as he can. This indicates that his other endeavors, including Vivet, will always be secondary to streaming; he currently has 21.8m followers on Twitch.
