Did iShowSpeed really get Guadeloupean citizenship?
Did iShowSpeed really get Guadeloupean citizenship?
Social media is ablaze with claims that Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. was granted a Guadeloupean citizenship by the country’s Vice President — here are all the details.
iShowSpeed’s Caribbean Tour is going strong, with the streamer already making viral content. Clips of the American handing out food were one of the first things that got real traction. He then claimed to be the
first streamer to livestream underwater, and showed off Grenada’s statue collection. The most wholesome moment of iShowSpeed’s tour may was when he
pledged to donate his Dominica stream revenue
to the country because of a recent flood.
Viewers refute claims of iShowSpeed getting Guadeloupean citizenship
The Dominica stream comprises the streamer
visiting four countries in one day. Guadeloupe was one of the four, and reports suggest he is now a citizen of the country. Posts went viral on social media claiming that iShowSpeed now has a Guadeloupean citizenship courtesy of the country’s Vice President, who apparently handed the streamer a card in the video.
Posts claim a female individual, who said to iShowSpeed, “we are giving you this card, you are Guadeloupean now,” is the Vice President. However, viewers were quick to react, with
some pointing out that Guadeloupe is a French overseas department, which means there is no Guadeloupean citizenship. They also shared that Guadeloupe doesn’t have a Vice President or any local head of state, as was being displayed in iShowSpeed’s stream.

iShowSpeed is in Guadeloupe as part of 2026
his Caribbean tour, and it’s normal for the streamer to interact with locals and even government officials. This is the key reason why unsuspecting viewers didn’t question when a video went viral with the caption that the country’s Vice President was honoring iShowSpeed with citizenship.
This action is legally impossible because citizenship comes under French nationality law. There was also no official announcement, so the claim was unverified from the beginning.
Guadeloupe is an overseas department of France, and not an independent country, which is why it can’t issue citizenship. This is why
the viral claim that iShowSpeed allegedly received a Guadeloupean citizenship holds no merit.
iShowSpeed did, however, recently receive a Ghanaian passport after his massively successful
Africa Tour. This has led to many fans joking that iShowSpeed is casually collecting citizenships while touring the globe.
