iShowSpeed Answers Fan Questions: Opens Up About Mental Health and One Piece

Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. recently did an extensive Q&A where he answered several fan questions, talking about things such as mental health and loneliness despite being massively popular, while he also debunked being a One Piece “larper”.
iShowSpeed is arguably the biggest IRL streamer in the world right now, with 2026 being a major year for the creator. Whether it was livestreaming the 2026 FIFA World Cup or being listed in Forbes 2026 Top Creators list, Speed accomplished several major milestones in the year. His next goal is to reach 100 million YouTube subscribers, and Kalshi is trading on how long that will take. The YouTuber has now opened up about personal details about his life, revealing some interesting infiormation.
What questions did fans ask iShowSpeed?
Speed opened up to questions on social media platform X; a fan questioned Speed about whether he wakes up feeling alone some days, with the world being loud but the YouTuber feeling quiet inside. He replied that “this one hit”, and then said that millions know Speed but very few know Darren. The streamer elaborated that he will have thousands screaming his name while he’s outside, but the hotel room is dead quiet. Speed stated it scares him sometimes, but he holds on to things like training, anime, learning piano, and his family. The YouTuber also talked about misconceptions people have about him when a fan asked, highlighting that some think he hates his mom.

Speed was asked whether he is caught up with One Piece, the Japanese series, and the streamer gave an in-depth answer. He discussed people calling him a “larper”, claiming that his entire room is full of One Piece stuff. The streamer elaborated that he collects cards and uses them for inspiration. He answered the question by revealing that he has finished Egghead, but hasn’t had the time to start Elbaph. The YouTuber stated he’s saving it for when he’s in a new chapter and can binge it.

iShowSpeed answered how he lives off stream, stating that some people think being a celebrity means you buy chains and sit courtside every week. He revealed that, despite his extensive net worth, he’s doing the same thing as when he was a kid and doesn’t need “all that” to be happy. The YouTuber talked about how his family was poor when he was younger, but he started helping out at 15 because streaming helped him earn “five figures”. He also gave his views on streaming right now, claiming that it has become oversaturated. However, Speed quickly said that he isn’t calling that a bad thing, as more streams mean more viewers. The streamer claimed streaming will change in the next few years, saying he’ll probably be a “big reason” for it.
☑️ My View: A refreshing move from Speed
iShowSpeed isn’t the first streamer to talk about how a massive fan following affects a streamer given the celebrity lifestyle that comes with it — Kai Cenat talked about facing his own mental health issues in 2025. Interestingly, both Kai Cenat and Speed listed anime as a way for them to find peace in life.
Some fans may find it surprising that two of the most popular streamers in the world can struggle despite having so many followers, but this rare dropping of the persona can only be a good thing and, at the same time, helps fans to see the real Speed, which is evidently what he wants.
