Reports claim that the Oblivion remake is coming soon, and fans wonder how much of it is true.
Bethesda’s had a weird track record as of late. Starfield was one of the most highly anticipated titles from the studio. After over a decade of hype for a brand-new IP, fans initially welcomed Starfield with high sales and great first impressions. As time passed, the reviews became more critical, and fans began to turn on the game.
Bethesda has not released anything major outside of Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC. Most fans assume that means all hands are on deck for the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6. Recent reports suggest that something else from the world of Tamriel may be in the works.
And it may be coming sooner than fans think.
Notable leaker Extas1s claims that Bethesda is developing an Oblivion remake. In a recent video, Extas1s states that the Oblivion remake is real, and it may release as early as 2025. The leaker accurately reported the release date of Hellblade 2 and multiple games coming to Game Pass before official accounts. The leaker claims it will be developed by Virtuos Studio on the Unreal Engine 5. The studio specializes in helping other major gaming studios with development. Virtuos Studio has worked on other RPGs such as The Outer Worlds and Cyberpunk 2077. The Oblivion remake may launch for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with a 2025 release date.

Coincidentally, the Skyblivion project, a mod “remake” of Oblivion, also has a release date of 2025.Ā This left fans wondering about how gamers will handle two reimaginings of a beloved Elder Scrolls classics. The use of Unreal Engine 5 also has fans speculating about its launch quality. With Bethesda’s track record of rough launches, some fans are worried that Unreal Engine 5 may mean even more bugs on release day. Fans noted the instability of Unreal Engine 5 for releases such as Marvel Rivals and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
The FTC vs. Microsoft document leaks revealed information about an Oblivion remaster. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer acknowledged the leaks, and stated that “so much has changed” since those details were written down. The leaked documents specifically cited Oblivion as a “remaster.” A since-deleted post on the subreddit r/GamingLeaksAndRumours claimed to be from an anonymous ex-employee of Virtuous Games Paris. The alleged developer claims the game was a remake that used Unreal Engine 5 and the Creation Engine.
Whether it’s a remaster or remake, the reports generally agree on enhanced visuals and quality-of-life updates for the classic RPG. With Elder Scrolls 6 unlikely to release anytime soon, an Oblivion remake could tide fans over. Many fans entered the Elder Scrolls franchise through Skyrim. The replayability, expansive world, and mod potential made it popular enough to warrant multiple ports. Oblivion features a similarly compelling story and open world, which should make the transition from Skyrim easier.
Whatever happens, Elder Scrolls fans hope 2025 brings something new to enjoy.
