Ex-Premier League footballer Dele Alli has not appeared on the pitch for a while, but the English attacking midfielder seems to have pivoted to streaming having started broadcasting on Twitch.

Dele Alli’s breakthrough at Tottenham came in 2015, successfully establishing himself at an international level. He also won the PFA Young Player of the Year awards from 2015/2016 to 2016/2017. Despite his talent, the footballer faced a downfall after his Spurs peak. This was linked to multiple factors, including mental health troubles and recurring physical injuries. Dele Alli has been a free agent since 2025 and has now started streaming on Twitch — and some of his clips have gone seriously viral.

This isn’t the first time Dele Alli has started streaming on Twitch

Dele Alli reportedly created his Twitch channel in 2018 while he was still a Tottenham player. He apparently used the channel to livestream himself playing Fortnite, with some streams even peaking at more than 25,000 viewers. The streamer then expanded his content to include other games, such as Call of Duty. His channel was reportedly last active in 2020. This explains how Dele Alli has more than 130k Twitch followers despite only recently starting regular broadcasts.

Alli isn’t grinding gaming streams this time around, as the streamer is more focused on IRL content. The streamer talks about himself, interacts with people, and even held a football reunion during a stream. This specific broadcast features several popular professional and retired footballers from Alli’s career. The list includes Harry Kane, Ashley Cole, James Maddison, and several more. Many of these athletes answered the call and became part of Alli’s IRL stream.

Ashley Cole asked Alli during the stream when he would make a football return. Alli replied, “Not long now”. This indicates that the streamer may still be trying to return to professional football, but there is no confirmation about his comeback. Harry Kane may have been the most notable footballer Dele Alli called, as the streamer stated that he expects Kane to win the Ballon d’Or. Popular IRL YouTuber Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. has also stated that he will be attending the Ballon d’Or, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll meet Dele Alli at the ceremony.

Fans have been tuning in to Dele Alli’s streams, but the streamer hasn’t revealed anything about his schedule or whether he will be livestreaming full-time. Despite this, Alli’s streams have been different from other IRL creators, as the footballer has used his extensive contacts list to produce original content.

☑️ My View: This could be the future for athletes

IRL streaming has been picking up significantly recently thanks to creators such as iShowSpeed, Kai Cenat, and Rangesh “N3on” Mutama. Each has their own style and format, with the trio primarily focusing on travel content in recent months.

Alli could herald a new era for athletes at the end of their careers — not that the Englishman would yet describe himself as such — where they go beyond simple social media posts to interact directly with their audience and, at the same time, expand their brand and appeal.
