Format and Schedule
Seven days isn’t a long time to whittle down 16 teams all the way to a single winner. IEM Rio 2026 will move fast, using two tournament phases. If you’re going to bet on these CS2 matches, it’s important to understand the scale of each phase.
Group Stage (April 13-15)
The 16 participating teams are divided into two groups.
- The format follows a double-elimination bracket in each group.
- All matches will be played in Best of 3 format.
- The top three teams from each group will advance to the playoffs.
- The group stage winners will advance directly to the semi-finals.
- The two remaining survivors start the playoffs from the quarterfinals.
This format pretty much means teams have two lives. Losing a series will send them down to the lower bracket, and losing another means they’re eliminated from the tournament.
By the end of the group stage, only six teams will remain, while 12 are immediately sent packing. Teams cannot afford to start slow.

Playoffs (April 17-19)
The six group stage survivors are seeded into a playoffs bracket.
- The format follows a single-elimination bracket.
- All matches except for the grand finals will be played in Best of 3 format.
- The grand final will be played in Best of 5 format.
- There will be a third-place decider on the final day.
Like most Counter-Strike tournaments, the playoffs for IEM Rio 2026 is single-elimination. This means one loss and you’re immediately out of contention for the trophy.
