As countries around the world continue to expand their approach online betting and gambling, Canada has seen tremendous growth in its own iGaming sector, and the industry seems set to continue growing well into the future.
Over the last few years, Canada’s growth in the online gambling space has all but exploded . There’s an especially big scene in the country’s most populous province of Ontario thanks to the ongoing changing of laws and regulations that have brought the practice forward by leaps and bounds. In May 2025, the iGaming Ontario Act made iGO an independent government agency that directly reports to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport. The goal has been to make online gambling legal but with stronger regulations, with an impressive total of 50 operators across 83 gaming sites.
Then in November 2025, the Court of Appeal for Ontario ruled that the province can legally offer “international liquidity” in online gaming beyond Canadian jurisdiction. This allows Ontario’s market to attract global operators for increased player engagement and increased support, continuing the expansion of iGaming in Canada that much further.
As far back as in 2022, it was already being made explicitly clear that iGaming would be tremendously popular in Canada. About 65% of Canadians of the age of 15 and over reported taking part in gambling activities that year. Only 1.6% of those players reporting possible risks of gambling problems. But even with that number being so low, Canadian officials have gone to great lengths to impose strict regulations surrounding online gambling to make the activity safer and more socially acceptable.
With that security in place,
online betting sites
and related platforms have been able to experience significant growth as more regions of the country throw their support behind the practice and see meaningful revenue growth as a result.

Fast-forward to the year 2025, and the revenue from
online casinos
in Canada was estimated to come in at a staggering $9.57 billion. And with iGaming expected to continue growing in Canada, forecasts indicate that a better than 2.5% annual growth rate is expected year-over-year through at least 2030.
That growth is thanks in part to Canada’s support of the scene and its reliable safety measures around it. But it’s also attributable in part to the rise in accessibility as operators cater to mobile devices. Being able to access slots and casinos from just about everywhere – whether one is on the go traveling or just lounging in bed – has been a huge benefit for the industry. In 2023, it was reported that millions of Canadians were already playing casino games on their phones. And like the country’s overall iGaming revenues, that number of mobile betters in Canada is only expected to climb further upwards.
Seeing the growth of gambling in Canada, as well as the country’s support of the industry, casino operators have started to implement increased localization into its marketing. This includes partnering with local celebrities and sports teams, as well as messaging that relates specifically to Canadian players. With the experience becoming more relatable and an increasing part of the country’s social fabric, it’s no surprise that the growth of iGaming in Canada is expected to remain healthy for years to come.
