Coop mode in Genshin Impact opens up the fun of exploring Teyvat with friends, but it isn’t available instantly to players; here’s how to unlock it.

It’s easy to get lost in Teyvat’s beauty, but the dangerous monsters and enemies lurking about within the world are far from friendly. As players progress to higher world levels, it’s common to find themselves struggling with low HP while trying to defeat these increasingly difficult enemies, especially for those with under-leveled or poorly invested characters.

But the great thing about Genshin Impact is that players don’t have to go alone or play solo. The game offers a multiplayer mode for those wanting to team up with friends, though it does come with a few hurdles to get started.

How to unlock co-op mode in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact’s co-op mode is unlocked after reaching Adventure Rank 16 and completing the Archon Quest Prologue: Act 1 – The Outlander Who Caught the Wind.

Unfortunately, joining another world or hosting a multiplayer session isn’t available to Genshin players right off the bat, or at least some time after the tutorial. Before they can unlock the cooperative mode of play, players will need to muster up some patience as it will take between three and six hours of dedicated grinding, or even a day or two of persistent play for more casual players, to reach the required level.

For beginners looking to level up quickly, there are plenty of methods to choose from. When starting out, focusing on the archon quest should be the priority. Parts of the main quest might eventually get locked behind a certain Adventure Rank. When that happens, players can shift their attention to side quests and world exploration to continue gathering EXP in the meantime.

How to join multiplayer mode in Genshin Impact

Press escape or enter Paimon’s Menu and tap the “co-op mode” to be join another world and begin multiplayer play. Before you can jump into another player’s world and engage in Genshin Impact’s coop mode, you must copy the other player’s UID and type it into the search bar. After locating the player, they can tap “request to join.” With their confirmation, you’ll be able to join up together and begin playing together.

Alternatively, if the player is already among your listed friends in-game, they can simply navigate to their friend list and click the button without needing to input the UID.

Genshin Impact does support cross-platform cooperative play, which means that players can join the same world regardless of the platform they are playing on. Whether you’re logging in via PC, mobile, or console, you can play with anyone as long as they are based on the same server that your characters are located on. This allows you to play with friends regardless of their platform of choice and whether they’re at home or on the go.

The co-op mode page also allows the players to have control over who gets to enter their world. They can enable or disable direct join or choose the option to require approval before others can join.

Keep in mind that only a limited number of players can join a single world at once. Each world has a maximum capacity of four concurrent players, whether in the overworld or in a given domain. Once joined, players can engage in a long list of cooperative activities. This includes exploring the overworld, battle bosses, gather materials like Mora and local specialties, fish, or even challenge domains together.
