How To Play Valkyrie’s Retro Gangster, the Viral Crime-Filled Slot
Valkyrie released the Retro Gangster slot at the end of August, and it has immediately become a viral hit with streamers — but what makes the gameplay unique?
The never-ending quest for slot providers is to develop a title that hits the mark in terms of theme, gameplay and replayability, all elements that ensure players pick up the game right away but then don’t get bored. Valkyrie’s Retro Gangster slot certainly falls into that category and it has the potential to be a staple at crypto casinos for years to come.
How to play the Retro Gangster slot
The Retro Gangster slot is played on a 5-reel, 3-row slot. It has 14 paylines, which means that there are more than enough ways for players to strike some nice wins. Running on Stake Engine, this slot is developed by Valkyrie, the same creators behind the likes of Loki’s Vault and Snake Temple.
This slot stands out primarily thanks to its max win amount. Players can win up to 25,000x in a single spin, though Retro Gangster is definitely one of the more volatile slots out there. Fortunately, the gameplay is fairly traditional, which means that just getting winning combinations is enough to find wins.

Not to mention, Retro Gangster has enhanced RTP of 96.70%, which is very high for most modern slots. Still, the high volatility means that players should expect significant swings between wins, though the wins that do land have a decent chance of being substantial.
As the name suggests, Retro Gangster leans on a gangster theme, with Al Pacino-inspire imagery. All of the symbols are centered around money and gangsters, while the background is attractive enough to make it a favorite for streamers. The slot’s wild symbol is arguably the most important, while expanding symbols and random multipliers can help players increase their final payout.
All Retro Gangster slot bonus buys
The Retro Gangster slot has three bonus games that can be triggered by rolling the right number of scatter symbols during the base game.
- Three scatter symbols trigger the regular bonus, which gives ten free spins. Wild symbols are persistent throughout the bonus.
- The super bonus requires four scatter symbols. It also awards players with ten free spins, makes wilds persistent throughout the bonus, and ensures that the minimum multiplier is 10x.
- Finally, five scatter symbols trigger the mythic bonus. This bonus has ten free spins with all of the advantages of the previous two bonus games, along with a guarantee that the first spin will give a wild in one of the first four reels.
Valkyrie is known for having a bunch of bonus buys, and Retro Gangster is no different. This slot has bonus enhancer, trickster spins, mystery spins, FU spins, and the option to automatically trigger the first two bonus rounds.
With so many awesome mechanics and an attractive layout, it makes sense that so many streamers are hopping on this slot. Those who want to give the Retro Gangster slot a shot can always try it on Stake and our Stake review is here to give a proper rundown of its pros and cons.
