Here's how CS2 Reload works after the new update

Ammo in Counter-Strike 2 currently feels unlimited, even though it’s not. However, the new Reload update will make the scarcity more noticeable.
Valve has rolled out a brand new update to how ammunition acts in CS2, mostly aimed at those that tend to waste bullets. Starting now, players will have limited magazines that would replace a used one instead of simply using bullets from the reserve.
The new update penalizes players who reload mid-fight, making every bullet tenfold more valuable.
How does CS2 Reload update work?
After the new CS2 Reload update, When you reload a magazine-fed weapon, all remaining ammo in the magazine is discarded and a new, full magazine is taken from the reserves.
Reloading after using a few bullets is a common habit among players, especially new ones. Players would reload their guns instinctively in the middle of fights only to keep the magazine fully-fed. This habit is non-existent among pro players and those in higher ranks, but the update will impact all due to the number of magazines available .

After the new update, players will get punished for reloading when it’s not strictly needed. For example, if you reload your AK-47 after using 4 bullets, the weapon will not use spare bullets from the reserve like it used to before. Instead, the entire magazine with 26 remaining bullets will be discarded, and a brand new magazine will take its place. That means, you can reload an AK-47 only twice.
Can you buy new magazines in CS2?
As of now, Valve has announced purchasable magazines in CS2. That means, players are stuck with whatever the default magazine of a CS2 weapon is.
Weapons now come with a fixed number of mags based on their ammo pool. For example, the AK-47 will have three magazines, the AWP will carry two five-round mags, and the CZ will have 36 bullets in total, including its two spare magazines. That means, unlimited reloads have now been replaced with as many reloads as the weapon’s magazine.
If magazines ever become purchasable, which is unlikely, players will still have to pay a lot of attention to economy-management, making this one of the biggest updates to gameplay in recent times. However, it’s highly unlikely that Valve would allow players to buy magazines as that has never been the case since CS 1.6.
Players have mixed reactions about the update, with some joking that it feels like an early April Fools prank. Unfortunately, the changes are real, and reloading is now a far more deliberate part of CS2. Players will need to take smarter fights and be more intentional with every shot.
High-impact weapons like the AWP are also seeing reduced ammo, effectively limiting their margin for error. In that sense, the Reload update can also be viewed as a broader nerf to how certain weapons perform in CS2.
