At long, long last, gamers might finally get an update on Hollow Knight: Silksong, and possibly a release date, as part of the next Nintendo Direct event where the Switch 2 will be fully revealed.

There’s a slow churn of “dream” games that are officially unveiled to raucous fans and then disappear. Titles like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and The Last Guardian were the talk of the town when they were revealed. After years of quiet, they began feeling like a Mandella Effect-style collective fantasy.

Perhaps the greatest example today is Hollow Knight: Silksong. A sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania was announced and revealed in 2019. Since then, the only real news on it was the 2022 announcement that it would be a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass. But that silence might soon be broken, but what will fans actually get?

Update on Hollow Knight: Silksong may come during next Nintendo Direct

One of Hollow Knight’s creators has seemingly teased that news will be unveiled on April 2, 2025.

William Pellen is one of Hollow Knight’s co-creators, and he made a strange move on X. The game designer was part of the cacophony of people teasing the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 on, hinting at a major announcement on January 16.

Alongside this, Pellen changed his profile picture to a photo of chocolate cake. The photo can be reverse image searched to a recipe for a “Brooklyn Blackout Cake.” The recipe is dated as April 2, 2024. Not only that, but as part of the Switch 2’s reveal, a Nintendo Direct event was confirmed for April 2, 2025.

All this points to Hollow Knight: Silksong news coming on April 2, 2025 as part of the next Nintendo Direct.

From a logical perspective, this makes sense. Hollow Knight: Silksong is one of the most hotly anticipated games there is. Fans of the original have made the game a steady part of every promotional event, with every Xbox Developer Direct, Nintendo Direct, and State of Play event maintaining a steady chorus of “Silksong when” posts in the chat. The game is still an indie darling though, so the best way to get eyeballs on it is attaching it to something like a Nintendo Direct.

This will also be the biggest Nintendo Direct in years, with fans likely to tune in by the millions to find out details on the new console. Though games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and the next Mario Kart will get priority, Hollow Knight: Silksong would fit right into a Nintendo Direct.

As for what will be revealed regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong, the release date remains the biggest question. The game was announced in 2019 and was set to be released in the first half of 2023. This never happened, though, and no updates have come since.

Fans have also seen precious little gameplay, with only a couple of trailers released thus far. Ultimately, gamers have a lot to look forward to on April 2 regardless.
