Will GTA 6 and Wolverine Reach The Expected Metacritic Score Heights?

What will the Metacritic score for GTA 6 be?

In 2026, it is highly likely that no two games will be bigger than GTA 6 and Marvel’s Wolverine. GTA 6 obviously takes the cake, but Wolverine has a strong case for second. For some, especially fans of comic books and superheroes, Wolverine might be first on the list. Either way, since Rockstar Games and Insomniac are two of the most beloved developers today, these two games are likely to be the most memorable when we eventually reflect back on 2026.

Does the public feel that way now? Kalshi offers prediction markets for the Metacritic score ahead of launch for both titles, and the numbers are pretty revealing.

Metacritic score predictions for GTA 6

Based on prediction markets, GTA 6 is already the Game of the Year. It hasn’t even come out yet, but the Netflix extended look pushed it even further into the lead on Kalshi. It’s hard to even get a nomination for Game of the Year without a Metacritic score over 85, and the prediction market for that currently reflects this thinking.

The overwhelming majority of traders (93% on Kalshi at the time of writing) believe GTA 6 will land above 85, the unofficial and loose threshold for award-winning. If we raise the prediction to over 90, 87% of traders still predict that. The top market is a 95 score or higher, and while the numbers dip, it’s still sitting at an impressive 50% chance.

For reference, there are only a handful of games sitting at that score or better in history. That would put GTA 6 up there with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Galaxy 2, GTA IV, Breath of the Wild, Perfect Dark, Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, Metroid Prime, GTA III, BioShock, Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, and Halo 2.

You’ll notice several Rockstar games in that list (and a couple of GTA games not included but were 95+), so perhaps it’s not all that risky to predict that GTA 6 will end up in the upper echelon of video games given the manpower that has been utilized throughout development.

Obviously, sentiment is overwhelmingly positive about GTA 6, perhaps to a historic degree. The sentiment for Wolverine, which drops in just a couple of weeks, is also pretty positive. Traders on Kalshi are not as convinced it will be on the same level as GTA 6, though.

83% of traders believe it will exceed a 70 on Metacritic. That 85 threshold? 79% of traders think it will surpass that mark. 19% believe it will be above a 90, and just 2% think it’s going to hit the coveted 95. In other words, traders seem to believe that Marvel’s Wolverine will be good, but not great.

Insomniac has a great track record, but they’re not Rockstar. Here are Insomniac’s best games and their respective score:

Those are really good numbers, but they’re not on the same level as the GTAs and Red Dead Redemptions of the gaming world.

☑️ My take: GTA 6 will deliver

It’s very likely that these two games will win awards at the end of the year, but we can’t kid ourselves. Wolverine will be fortunate to come away with some since it’s in the same year as GTA 6. That is true for all games. Rockstar’s next title is already a juggernaut, and it’s hard to convince anyone that it won’t be an absolute banger.

Wolverine is a very exciting game, but there’s just nothing like GTA. The Metacritic predictions are pretty accurate because it feels very likely that Wolverine will land in the 80s and GTA 6 in the 90s. There are some nitpicky things that some fans are complaining about that might prevent it from reaching a 95, but it’s hard to imagine a world where everyone doesn’t adore GTA 6.
