GTA 6 Online's Release Date Is Clearer After Twitch CEO Comments

GTA 6 will likely have an online mode eventually

Will GTA 6 eventually get an extensive online mode like GTA 5 before it? That’s the question that has persisted since the game was first announced without it. It’s always likely been a yes, but then when? Well, according to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, next year. The executive has revealed direct talks with Rockstar, and Kalshi prediction market chances have responded accordingly.

When will GTA 6 Online drop?

It doesn’t need to be said that GTA 6 is going to be one of the most popular games of all-time at launch; that much is clear from the hype throughout 2026. Everyone’s going to play it. Those who don’t (and perhaps even those who do) will watch it. Twitch streamers are going to get a lot of viewership if they play the game. That is going to result in a spike, as will the launch of online mode.

“We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators,” Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said via VGC. “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”

Clancy didn’t provide an official date, and he didn’t clarify whether or not he was speculating. However, he did say he has been in direct communication with Rockstar  so it is likely that he has some sort of information. It makes sense for GTA 6 and Twitch to work together to drive interest in both at the appropriate times.

Take-Two has remained coy. “GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November,” the company said. “We will continue to support GTA Online after the Grand Theft Auto 6 release and beyond.”

There is one thing to point out. GTA 5 was also dropped as a single-player experience. Two weeks later, GTA Online launched. But, since Clancy said it would be next year, it’s hard to predict the same launch pattern. If he was simply speculating, he’d likely have said a lot sooner to mirror the pattern. Next year is too far off to be totally made up, in other words, and there were, of course, teething issues with the 2013 launch that Rockstar will be keen to avoid.

Kalshi traders predict when GTA 6 Online will drop

Kalshi traders are currently making their predictions for when GTA Online will drop for the new title. Before 2027, which would be only a maximum of five weeks after GTA 6, has a meager 9% chance. Before July 2027 is sitting at 57%, and 92% of traders expect GTA Online to arrive before 2028. Those are currently the only three options.

Initially, the “Before 2027” prediction had a much higher chance, but delays to the game’s launch and the confirmation that it’d be a single-player experience at launch tanked that. Based on all the information, that market is highly unlikely.

As well as the excitement of the probable online mode, traders at Kalshi have also been predicting if and when a PC version of GTA 6 will arrive.

☑️ My Take

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy doesn’t work on GTA 6, but given his relationship with those who do, he likely has a good idea of when the game is getting an online mode. “Next year” is a pretty broad date range, so it’s hard to pin the developer down on an exact date right now.

It appears probable that Rockstar is focusing its efforts on polishing the single player experience before it announces the online companion. Kalshi traders have it right with the 92% predicting before 2028. Beyond that, it’s hard to nail down a specific timeline, but sooner rather than later is a safe bet given how popular GTA 6 Online will be.
