With two rounds of the PGL Astana group stage now done, G2 Esports and M80 are among the teams facing elimination.
G2 Esports and M80 entered PGL Astana in very different spots. G2 was a top team needing to sort itself after a major roster shakeup. M80 is a tier-two team looking to prove itself in tier-one events. Unfortunately, neither of them have seen things go well.
Now, one of them is doomed to a 0-3 run in the tournament. Which team will it be, though? And how should you be betting on this match?
G2 vs ODDIK – HIGHLIGHTS – PGL Astana 2025 | CS2
G2 Esports and M80 are set to play in an elimination match in PGL Astana’s group stage. The best-of-three match will see the loser sent home from the tournament. The winner still faces a tough road ahead, and will need to win two more matches in a row to advance to the playoffs.
G2 Esports entered PGL Astana with an overhauled roster due to the departure of Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov. The new roster debuted in this event with a thud:
The first match was a tight loss against MIBR. While MIBR has a propensity for taking teams by surprise, G2 followed that up with a loss against the unheralded ODDIK. The squad will need to rebound here to avoid a winless exit from its first tournament.
G2 Esports has thrived on Dust 2 and Inferno throughout 2025, while struggling on Anubis and Nuke. Mirage and Ancient have been close to a wash for the team. G2 typically bans Train.
Recent tournaments have seen North American teams Team Liquid and Complexity Gaming exceed expectations. M80 has not continued that trend in PGL Astana so far, taking a lopsided loss to NaVi at the start of the tournament
The M80 roster has been competing in numerous big tournaments lately, but is yet to find success:
M80 likes playing on Ancient and has a strongly positive record there in 2025. Not only that, but it’s been able to beat high-end teams on the map. The team has a winning record on its other maps except for Train, though that winning record hasn’t held up against non-tier-three North American teams. M80 does ban Nuke, which helps G2.
G2 Esports and M80 faced off in BLAST Open Spring, with G2 winning that match 2-0. The organizations crossed paths in 2024 as well, but huNter- is the only player remaining on G2’s roster from that time.
Virtus.pro vs M80 – HIGHLIGHTS – PGL Astana 2025 | CS2
M80 is a sizable favorite against G2 Esports in the early lines on their match. The first betting offering action on the match have the lines at 1.7 against 2.13, with M80 as the favorite to advance in PGL Astana. That’s a bad look for G2 Esports, though it could offer some opportunities for bettors.
G2 Esports should be able to beat M80 in the PGL Astana group stage. This is a bad start for G2 by any measure but the team hasn’t looked irredeemably bad. Even in G2’s current state, M80 hasn’t beaten a team of this caliber in some time.
