Fortnite collaboration in danger after generative AI revelation
Fortnite has crossovers with so many different things. If Epic Games wants something in the game, it usually happens. Whether it’s Darth Vader, Spider-Man, Batman, Patrick Mahomes, LeBron James, Sabrina Carpenter, or Khaby Lame, anything the developers want usually ends up in the game.
It’s rare for a collaboration to end up cancelled, but there’s real danger of that happening right now. Vampire Survivors was supposed to have a collaboration out with the game by now, but concerns over Epic Games’ use of generative AI have threatened that.
Vampire Survivors x Fortnite in danger after generative AI reveal
At Unreal Fest, Fortnite showcased a ton of upcoming
crossovers. Sonic, Control Resonant, and Vampire Survivors were among them, but the latter may not be happening anymore. At the same showcase, Epic Games confirmed its use of generative AI.
The developers have used AI in the asset creation process numerous times. This was an accusation levied by players that Epic Games decided not to bother denying. Instead, Epic opted to show the process in full, including how and when AI is involved.
There are tons of concerns about the use of AI in video game creation, but it is becoming more and more rampant without many consequences. Players prefer the entire process to be human-oriented, while developers are often looking for ways to cut costs, especially in this case, after Epic Games had to lay off 1,000 employees.

But there may be a consequence for AI usage here. Vampire Survivors developer Poncle
said on Reddit, “Following today’s news about gen AI usage by Epic to create all sorts of game assets, including Fortnite characters, we’re currently ‘reviewing’ our
collaboration with Fortnite. We’ll let you know if anything moves forward.”
That last part of the statement sounds as if the collab is not going to happen. It’s clear that Poncle is not happy with using generative AI and wants nothing to do with a game that does use it. However, they may have some contractual issues to work through right now.
