League of Legends players who want to unlock ranked modes and other options more quickly will want to learn the fastest ways to level up their LoL accounts.

Like many other multiplayer competitive games, League of Legends has a lengthy leveling system. The system shows players how much time they’ve invested in the game, and the more they play, the higher their Summoner level gets. Leveling up rewards players with capsules they can open to acquire such gifts and rewards as champion shards.

Players with new accounts must increase their Summoner level to access various game modes, including the PvP Summoner’s Rift ranked play. Thanks to this, fans may want to learn the best way to level up their accounts quickly in League of Legends and what the requirements are to unlock ranked games.

How to quickly level up in League of Legends

Players can most quickly level up their new account in League of Legends by simply winning games and using XP boosts as they go.

Players earn experience points by finishing games played, and winning nets more XP than losing. Generally speaking, playing regular PvP games in Summoner’s Rift is better for players trying to level up quickly thanks to the longer match times of this mode. While ARAM games are shorter and thus may seem easier, that shorter duration reduces the XP gained, even when winning. On the other hand, while PvE games played versus bots are relatively easy and can go on for a while to increase experience gained, the XP reward is still typically less than in PvP games.

LoL challenges

Gamers can buy XP boosts for a specific duration from the in-game LoL store, and those boosts will expedite the leveling process. If the player has an active Xbox Game Pass subscription, they can link their Microsoft and Riot accounts together for an XP boost that lasts until the subscription expires. The Game Pass XP boost is 20% and applies to battle pass and event content.

While daily and weekly challenges previously gave players experience, that doesn’t apply anymore. Changes made with the kick-off of League of Legends 2025 Season 1 Act 1 ensured challenges give players experience for the game’s battle pass, not to increase their summoner level.

How to unlock ranked modes in League of Legends

Players can unlock ranked modes in League of Legends by gaining enough experience to reach account level 30 and by owning at least 20 champions for play in the game.

League of Legends Game Pass rewards

Players can purchase champions to reach the requirement of 20 by spending the blue essence or Riot Points in-game currencies to acquire champions. Players can get blue essence for free by playing the game, completing missions, and through other outlets. If players don’t have enough Blue Essence, they can buy champions by spending real money on Riot Points. Capsules, chests, and orbs also frequently reward players with champion shards that players can use to unlock champions more cheaply.

Once players fulfill both requirements for ranked play, they can enter ranked solo/duo and ranked flex queues. You can enter the former queue by playing alone or by inviting a single friend to play duo queue games with. Ranked flex queues allow you to team up with more friends and queue up together. Each queue has a different ranking for its players, given how different the experience is of playing solo or duo queue versus playing with a full group of friends.
