The Elden Ring Nightreign network test will allow players to choose from four character classes, and while the full game will have more, we’ve already gotten a good look at how these four classes will play.
Elden Ring Nightreign is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Soulslike experiences yet. Not only does it have callbacks to other FromSoftware games including the Dark Souls series, but the multiplayer-focused approach is more similar to a game like Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone than to previous FromSoftware efforts.
Since every run in Nightreign is supposed to be relatively short, players take on the role of a great many characters called Nightfarers. Every character has a different class with differing strengths and weaknesses, including an ultimate abilities and passive bonuses. Those planning to play Elden Ring Nightreign will benefit from learning about every class in the network test and in the full game.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s network test features four selectable character clases: Wylder, Duchess, Guardian, and Recluse. Below is information on every character class in Nightreign’s network test.
Wylder is the most straightforward class selection of the bunch. Being a generic knight class, Wylder is the game’s poster character and is featured in most promotional material, including the collector’s edition.
This character class is excellent in using close-combat weapons, and their Clawshot skill gives them a unique mobility boost. The grappling claw shot using the skill can pull enemies close, launch Wylder toward enemies, or be used on the ground or other objects to swing around.
Finally, Wylder’s ultimate ability launches an iron stake that explodes for high stagger damage. The ability can be charged up to increase its overall power and range.
Duchess is the closest thing to an assassin class character Nightreign’s network test has. Having Bloodborne’s trademark sidestep instead of the usual dodge roll, this character takes advantage of their quick movements to dance around enemies while stacking up small but meaningful damage numbers.
Duchess’ skill is Restage, which lets players repeat the most recent action on nearby enemies. Thanks to this, powerful attacks can be used twice to stack effects, whether the damage affects health or poise. While this skill has high potential, this character’s ultimate can be a game-changer by casting invisibility on them and nearby allies, making them undetectable for a potentially crucial handful of seconds.
Any good team needs a tank character to sponge primary damage. The Guardian is Nightreign’s version of that class. This character comes equipped with a large shield in their initial equipment set, and theycan use a unique guarding ability.
What most may not expect from this character’s name is that their abilities focus less on defense and more on taking advantage of their wings. They have a Whirlwind skill that blows air to deal AOE damage. There’s also the Wings of Salvation ultimate that has Guardian leap up and swoop down to deliver damage to enemies before temporarily deploying a defensive formation to protect allies.
While swords and shields are cool, some FromSoftware players prefer using magic. Recluse should be the go-to for those players. Excelling in all sorts of magical abilities and prayers, their unique ability lets them attack while recovering FP, which is Elden Ring Nightreign’s version of mana.
This character focuses on dealing magic or elemental damage to drop and collect elemental marks from enemies. Get enough marks to unleash a powerful spell. Of course, the spell shouldn’t be used before using Recluse’s ultimate ability, which brands nearby enemies with the Blood Mark to increase how much damage they take.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s full release will have at least eight character classes and more may be added through DLC.
Nightreign’s collector’s edition comes with eight Nightfarer cards, and every card likely represents one individual launch version character class. Not much is known about the other classes. Fortunately, the upcoming game’s marketing material is already giving players an idea of what to expect.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s debut gameplay trailer showcases a character who uses a giant axe and hammer hybrid weapon. There’s also a character who uses a katana, and another who uses a greatbow. It’s unknown if these characters will be in the full release or as part of some future DLC. While the content of the upcoming DLC is unannounced, players can get instant access to it through the game’s deluxe, Seekers, and collector’s editions.
