With League of Legends 2025 Season 1 being based on the Runeterra region of Noxus, many LoL fans are wanting to learn more about it.
The in-game world of League of Legends is massive. While Arcane gave fans a glimpse into Runeterra, the fictional world is much more than just the twin cities of Zaun and Piltover. Players who continued or started their League of Legends journey thanks to Arcane may wonder why everything is based on Noxus.
Arcane was a good introduction to Noxus, especially with how Ambessa described it. Those who watched the LoL Noxus cinematic may want to learn more about Noxus and the champions who originate from there. Others may not like the red-tinted Summoner’s Rift and may wonder when it’ll go away. Either way, we have the answers.
Unlike the science-forward Piltover and the seedy undercity of Zaun, Noxus is a warmongering empire that respects individual strength above everything.
Ancient Rome is perhaps the best real-world comparison to Noxus. The fictional nation is a proud meritocracy, where those with the strength to back up their actions are respected above all others. Brutal, expansionist, and always willing to pick a fight with neighboring nations, Noxus is in many ways the opposite of the peace-loving nation of Ionia.
Unlike Piltover’s hierarchical approach to who should lead its people, anyone in Noxus can climb to power if they have the strength to acquire and hold that power. Whereas the nation of Demacia looks down on magic users, Noxus actively seeks these individuals out and helps them to better hone their abilities in service to the Noxian empire.
The grand general battle mage Swain sits at the peak of Noxus’ people. He leads them in the hopes of making his dream of uniting Runeterra under one banner into a reality. But as Arcane and the LoL Noxus cinematic suggested, some of the most dangerous threats to Noxus and its people are from within this nation in which strength and power trump all.
A number of fan-favorite LoL champions are from the region of Noxus, including Draven, Darius, and Katarina.
Below is a list of every League of Legends champion who originates from Noxus.
Interestingly, spider queen Elise is from the Noxus area and has a skin in the LoL 2025 Season 1 Act 1 battle pass, but most don’t consider her an actual Noxian. While Elise’s lore states she was originally a noblewoman, she was cursed in the Shadow Isles, and for some she better represents that haunted region. But she doesn’t have any one official place of origin at this point, despite her roots in Noxus and her affiliation with the Shadow Isles.
Summoner’s Rift will be in Noxus until the initial phase of League of Legends 2025 Season 1 ends, which will be around the end of April 2025.
League of Legends will have three seasons in 2025, each being based on a different region in Runeterra. The first season is Noxus-themed, though it’s unknown which regions the next two acts of the season will take elements from.
Riot Games usually operates on a strict schedule. According to the official League of Legends patch schedule, Season 2 will begin on April 30, 2025. Summoner’s Rift will then change to fit a different region’s theme. Summoner’s Rift will likely leave Noxus either at the start of the next phase or some days before as the next phase begins to roll out.
