Top-tier Counter-Strike action returns at the Esports World Cup, as 32 of the best teams will take the trip to Paris to compete for millions of dollars. If you’re looking to watch the event, here’s everything you need to know and which teams to keep an eye on.

CS2 at EWC 2026 format and details

The Esports World Cup is one of the largest CS2 events if we’re looking at prize pools, as $2,000,000 will be distributed among the 32 participants. The tournament takes place from August 12 to 23, meaning we’ll have plenty of opportunities to watch the best CS2 teams duke it out.

As usual, CS2 at the Esports World Cup will feature two stages, which are the group stage and playoffs.

In groups, 32 teams are divided into four groups of eight. The eight teams are then seeded into a double-elimination bracket. This means two losses and you’re out. By the end of the group stage, only half of the teams from each group will advance to the playoffs.

After the group stage, only 16 teams will remain. These teams are then seeded into a single-elimination bracket. So, there’s no room for error – lose one series and your dreams are shattered.

The winning team will take home the lion’s share of $600,000 in prize money on top of 1,000 EWC Club Points that’ll be awarded to the organization. Also, EWC will name the best CS2 player of the event as the tournament MVP, and that player will receive a nice bonus of $25,000.

CS2 at the Esports World Cup 2026 predictions

After the IEM Cologne Major 2026 event in June, several teams made roster changes, so the world rankings are still up in the air.

However, if we were to pick the three likeliest candidates to win the CS2 Esports World Cup, it would be these teams:

Team Vitality: Despite losing at the Major, Vitality have still looked like the best CS2 team in the world this year. They have the firepower and experience to take any tournament, including this one.
Team Falcons: The reigning Major champs – Team Falcons look like they’ve finally clicked since boarding in-game leader karrigan. The team is in great shape and are motivated to carve their new dynasty.
Team Spirit: You can never count out Team Spirit. This team has some of the scariest firepower in the world, and their star player – donk – can take over matches on his own.

Apart from these three teams, we recommend keeping an eye on Natus Vincere, Aurora, G2 Esports, MOUZ, and FURIA, which are teams capable of dealing some serious damage at the event.
