A release date leak concerning the highly-anticipated Doom: The Dark Ages may have been leaked thanks to a now-deleted article listed on a French website.
The Doom series is a major fan favorite for fans of classic shooting action. While the original Doom games set the table in the early 90s, between the 2016 Doom to 2020’s Doom Eternal, more recent fans of the series have had their plates full of excellent destruction, fast-paced action, and thunderous music. Expectations are through the roof for the latest game in the franchise with the announcement that the next Doom game will take place in a dark fantasy setting after Doom Eternal took things in a more extreme direction.
While players have a window for a 2025 release date, that’s all they’ve known about when to expect Doom: The Dark Ages. That may have changed as two sources could have potentially leaked the game’s release date, showing it to be even closer than many fans expected.
According to a now-deleted article from a French website, Doom: The Dark Ages’s release date was leaked as May 15, 2025.
The article was listed on Gamekult, a French video game journalism website. Though the website shortly deleted the article, it wasn’t before fans caught the first paragraph that detailed a leak of the game’s release date. While some fans assume it may be a placeholder date, that seems unlikely due to how specific it is and how it lines up with another leak.
Xbox 2025 Predictions: Gears E-Day in 2025, FF7 Remake, BIG Switch 2 & PS5 Games, Oblivion & More
A May release date would also align with what noted leaker NateTheHate said on his Nate the Hate podcast on January 10, 2025. Shortly before talking about the reported Elder Scrolls: Oblivion remake, the content creator offered that his sourced led him to believe that Doom: The Dark Ages would come out in May.
With a 2025 release date already confirmed for the game, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say Doom: The Dark Ages could come out on May 15. While the exact release date hasn’t been confirmed by its publisher Bethesda, the game will be featured in the January 23 Xbox Developer Direct. If the release date is that close, revealing it during the event would make sense.
Doom: The Dark Ages is slated to be a prequel to the other two games in the modern Doom trilogy, Doom and Doom Eternal.
The Doom series saw a major revamp with 2016’s Doom reboot. While players were then thrust into the action without much explanation or preamble, Doom: The Dark Ages will likely change that. Referred to as the “cinematic origin story of the DOOM Slayer’s rage,” the medieval setting will detail the time before he started taking down demons in earnest.
According to the official reveal trailer, the game will be set when the Doom Slayer used to be the super weapon of gods and kings. Players will surely embark on another mission armed with unique weapons to cause destruction among the varied forces of evil.
